Hi. First time posting here, but I used this site exstensively during my search for a notebook. I thought I would return the help with some information that I didnt see here. I got a Compaq Presario v2565us. This came with a turion 32-ml, light scribe dvd-rw, and the memory card reader. I purchased it localy for less than I could customize it at HP (after a small rebate), and am fairly pleased with its preformance. One nice suprise (not noted anywhere else, even in its own documentation) is that the light scribe 8x dvd burner is also dvd-ram compatable.
I purchased it with knowing that I would upgrade the ram asap due to its over all system boost. Not seeing very good recomendations on any ram other than Corsair or Crucial, I worried about this purchase more than that of the actual laptop. After a couple weaks of research I went with 2 A-Data 1gig pc3200 so-dimms. These have the same 2.5-3-3-7 timings as the original infineon ddr 333, when these run at ddr 400. If I ran them at 333
the timings would be 2-3-3-6. These are their spd timings that they boot to. Newegg has these for less most of the other sticks. I've only had them in for a couple of days and have not done any real stress testing (maybe I'll let prime95 or memtest run while I'm at work monday). Any ways they work good so far even at 1T timings.
I also ordered a Hitachi 7k100 100gb hard drive which has been installed for even less time. This drive is much louder than the 4200 80gb Fujitsu that came with the computer. But a good improvement to overall system responsiveness. It does run under normal use at 44c where as the Fujitsu ran at 42c. Boot time has improved greatly, but I dont know if just because of the drive or the fresh install of windows. Which brings me to my question.
After installing windows, and all the newest drivers other than compaq's ati driver (I'm useing ati's own catalyst 6.4). The wireless on off switch does not work correctly. It will turn the wireless on and off, but the light does not stay on if it is on. As soon as it connects the light turns off again. I would like to return it to stock (ie. light on = wireless on, light off = wireless off) without reinstalling all of HP's bloatware. I have the HP driver recovery disks but nothing obvious seems to do it. Wireless assistant, not wanted but tried, does'nt even load. There are two other "Recomended software applications" that look promising (hp OS enhancements, and HP image enhancements) but might add other unwanted junk. Any help would be appreciated. I know others have reinstalled windows. I even think I read a post about this problem , but I can't find it now.
This great site and posts have already helped me out a bunch.

For the wireless: try updating the broadcom drivers. If you have done so, revert to some older original drivers.
some time ago, a guy reported that the wireless button won't glow if you card is set to power-saving mode. Check this in the Device manager, the properties of hte wireless card. In the Advanced tab there are quite a few options and two should refer to Powersaving.
Hope it helps. -
I don't believe the V2565 has a DVD-RAM capable drive. I purchased the same unit in January. Have you tried reading or writing to a DVD-RAM drive?

Thank you vassil_98. The advanced tab in the device manager has the option, Minimum Power Consumption. This option needs to be disabled for the light to function like stock. Now I've got a little searching to do to find the best setup for all those other options. Any tips?
And to you richlvilla. My Compaq V2565us purchased from Compusa last month. Has the same specs as the one in your signature, other than, mine came with the 80Gb 4200rpm HD. I was very suprised when I opened up, My Computer in the start menu, and it displayed DVD-RAM Drive D:. I then looked it up in the device manager and found the model number HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4048N. Which makes it look like its manufactured by LG, who's current crop of drives are being promoted as Super Multi and Tri-DVD format. I put checking that, off. Untill just last weak when I installed Nero. Nero has a drive utility that displays all of the supported speeds and formats. And DVDRAM was checked showing that it is supported. These discs are hard to find affordably, but next time I order from an online vendor that has them I'm going to try it out. -
Actually I realised I had posted the wrong specs on my hard drive. It is a 4200 RPM 80 GIG HD.
My DVD drive is a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M drive, which does NOT report it as a DVD-RAM drive. It is unusual that HP would change drives within the same model number. You are lucky!
V2000 fast ram, and a question.
