Thanks to this Fatwallet Thread I have a brand new V2000Z on it's way from staples.

I ordered the V2000Z with the lowest amount of ram 256Megs PC2700/333, knowing that I could probably get a better deal on PC2700 SODIMM's aftermarket, then I could if I chose the upgrade at purchase time...
Which was an Additional $125 for 2x512MB PC2700/333 memory. I also planned on maxing this out to 2GB (2x1GB).

There was much debate on the Fatwallet thread in regards to what type of memory this system would accept... Some say PC2700 some say PC3200

So I called HP's Sales Dept. and told them I had a question about the V2000Z and I asked them what memory the V2000Z would accept, and they said it would ONLY accept PC2700 SODIMM's.

    I also read these threads:
    AMD Forum
    Notebook Review Forum

That both state this system will accept PC3200...

I've also PM'ed some Fatwallet Members who already have this notebook, and have gotten mixed reviews, some say PC3200 works fine, some said only if you also use a PC2700chip and a PC3200chip, and some said PC3200 didn't work at all.

So now I am really confused

So whats the deal, can this system handle PC3200?
How much of a performance increase should I see using PC3200 over PC2700?

If the performance is negligible, I might as well just buy 2x1GB PC2700 chips.

p.s. Check out this thread also... VERY confusing HP.

    Thanks in advance,
    -BassKozz

Yes the system can handle PC3200, it's just that its probably cheaper for HP to use PC2700 (My HP desktop came with PC2700 but i've got 1gb of PC3200 in it and its fine).

    Thanks Unreal,
Any idea on the preformance increase, is it worth spending thr extra money on PC3200?

Has anyone else heard of these issues the V2000Z has with it's RAM ?

The v2000z will most definately accept PC3200 RAM, and it is most definately worth the $5-a-stick-at-most more.

Price diff between PC2700 and PC3200 is generally minimal, especially @ Newegg.

I just put a single 1GB PC3200 Corsair ValueSelect stick (VS1GSDS400) and removed both stock 256MB PC2700 sticks so it'll run at 400MHZ vs. 333MHz. It's been working fine.

ddr400 works. The problem I had was finding a set that was stable as I went through 2 sticks of OCZ and just finally decided to get some corsair ddr400 which seems to be working ok.
