I know Office depot and BestBuy sell compaqs, but does anyone know if they sell this model in stores? I've check their websites, but sometimes those are unreliable. After some thought I decided to abondon the D820 in favor of the V2000z. I'm going to order it online anyway, but I'd like to see it in person if I get the chance.

why dont you get the V3000z its a better looking/upgrade version of the V2000z. It also comes with Turion X2 with a newer socket which will me more future proof. Also has newer interface than the V2000z such as the PCI Express card and DDR2. In due time they will discontinue the V2000x so its best to go with the V3000z. Plus the price isnt that much more than the V2000z. Ive compared with both similar specs and it comes out to be 50 dollars more, but your getting alot more future proof of a system. I compared it on www.compaq.com but it may be cheaper at best buy and other fine retailers if you can get in on those mail in rebate deals. With the V3000z it will probably be around the fall to christmas time before we see any really good deals on the V3000z. I am planning on buying it when they release the pre vista promotion where you get the upgrade version of vista for free if you buya laptop during there promotionm period.

Yea I did a little comparing of the two last night. I had my v2000z come out to 830 something and the v3000z out to 920 something. Granted, they were both with the nonupgraded ram and HD because I plan to buy those two from newegg and install them myself. And being that I want to spend as little as possible right now, I think the v2000z is still a little better deal. I also prefer the white/grey look of the v2000 :D, but I'm not sure yet. Still leaning with the v2000z.

When does the vista promotion start?

I wonder if hpshopping will offer a 150 instant savings on the v3000z like they do on the v2000z :D
