Is this not a bit high? I'm getting ready to sell my Sony Vaio (it's got CHC installed) and it stayed around 40C while working on it. My V2309 is constantly around 60C and will go to 65C if I don't let the bottom get some air. Is this what everyone is experiencing? I remember reading that this 14" widescreen chassis is not the best for heat dissipation - and even the dv1315 that I tried was also hot.

I'm at day 20 of my 21 day return policy at CompUSA so I'm just curious. My first [defective] V2309 also stayed around 60C which is why it didn't concern me at first.

    PS: It's completely stock, Pentium-M 1.5GHz/512MB RAM/60GB 5400 RPM HDD etc...

My T42 runs 50-55º when set to max power. What are your power settings? If it is set to max power that would explain the high heat. I used NHC to set it to conserve battery even when plugged in or docked. Runs about 38-42º most of the time now.

Both examples given (from my old Vaio and my V2309) are utilizing Speed Stepping so they're down to ~600MHz and they are undervolted to 0.700v. Right now I'm at 60C after light Photoshop work and internet browsing. Screen brightness is at its lowest.

It hasn't bothered me too much cuz it keeps me warm in class and at the library :D

PS: Does ambient temperature play a big role? It's ~85 degrees here in Hawaii daily, though right while I'm using it, it's about ~70-75 degrees.

Hawaii? I'll just start hating you now. Where I am at, it was 66º today. Supposedly it was the last say of Fall. The high for Tuesday is supposed to 35º.

60º does seem high since you are in low power mode. I've played around with a few v2000s. They didn't seem hot to me, but I wasn't really looking for it either. Photoshop can be hard on the CPU. Maybe you should look at the CPU utilization levels.

That doesn't sound normal....are your fans going on at all?

My Pentium M 1.86GHz idles at 42-45. Idling at 60 is way to high. I'd load the BIOS setup defaults - perhaps a hardware setting was changed.

The fans go on at a 4-5 degrees over 60C.. Interestingly enough I ran Prime95 for an hour and my temperature was maybe 62-63C *without* the fan running much; barely a change over its idle temp. Maybe something isn't reporting right because after stress testig for an hour I'd expect a bigger jump than that. I think it really might be an issue with ambient temperatures because last night it was ~75F and my notebook idled at 55C or so.

He he.. Well, the cost of living in Hawaii is extremely high so it's not all that great. Apartments are going for $250,000+ and townhouses start at $400,000+. It's crazy. Hawaii's "winter" has started cuz now it's 70-75F at night :D
