I recently read on a Linux compatability wiki for HP & Compaq that the IR unit in the V3000 is a non-functioning unit, even though it is listed as a feature on the site. Is this true? Here is a link to the site.

It only works with the media remotes you get from HP.

Yeah, its just a Consumer IR so works only with remotes and such stuff & so is not really useful unless if you plan on using the remote. As for the presence of the IR in the V3000, I believe it is present since device manager lists a 'HID compliant consumer control device' which I think should be the IR. Thats all I can say for now since I have no way of testing it.

    Just a thought..

I wonder if a "learning" remote could learn the codes off the orginal remote???

To the OP, V3000 IR scam?... Well the IR works in Windows... don't think the unit is certified to run Linux (and have all the org features).. is it?

I tried it with my older iPaq, and Nevo, and it learned the functions from my dv1000 remote, and it did work on my dv1000.

Not sure if it'd work with the newer HP notebooks, but I found it interesting it was able to control to notebook via my handheld, to some extent.

How do you turn off the V3000 IR in Windows? When my wife uses one of our MCE remotes she scrolls my windows around and presses enter etc. Very annoying.

You should be able to disable the device in Device Manager.

I just got my v3000z NOV-27, got the remote with it - it works fine,
may be it only works when you get a few upgrades with it like
Optional Productivity Ports and Imprint Finish - thats what I got

    who knows - Good luck
