Well this is my secound v3000 from costco, the first one had screen issues. This one has an excellent screen however I have encountered another problem. When ever I scroll, open a window, open a program etc.... the computer makes a high pitch, whinning, screeching noise? It sounds like its comming from the HD area. I diddn't notice this on my first one, but sitting in the library today the noise became very annoying. Is this common, or a funk hard drive?

Correction is sounds like its comming form the left speaker?

Most likel the sound is due to leaky capacitors. Mine does that too sometimes but is pretty muted. I notice it only when I 'tap' click on the touchpad. Its not the hard drive neither the speaker, but I have seen this issue with many laptops(my old Toshiba had the same issue). Depends on how sensitive you are to these sounds. If it bothers you return it and get a diferent laptop.

Hey, I've read something on cnet about when putting pressure on the optical drive there was a whinning noise. Other than that it got a somewhat good review. I know that it's not the problem you brought up, but just thought I would mention it.Worth checking out cnet.

I also had the same problem when I first got my V3000. But now, the noise seems to be gone. Either that or I got used to it and I don't notice it anymore.

Personally, I wouldn't return a notebook just because of an HD noise. However, if the noise is constant and really distracting, then yes, get it exchanged.
