My general understanding is this laptop is more or less the same as the HP dv2000t. So my questions are these:

Are there any real differences equipment wise? I notice the 2000t has a slightly tapered CD tray while the V3000t looks square.

There are very few pictures of this laptop that are large. Is the top silver or black? I wish there were a picture of it looking down on it from the top closed.

It says 5.4 lbs, is this accurate or is it with the optical drive out?

Except that it doesnt include the optional webcam, Nvidia Go 7200 video card.
They use the same internal components, the external components are different due to the different design. The tray is not tapered but only the cover(front face plate) is different.
Its neither silver or black. It is just Grey with silver lines in the background if you choose the imprint finish. With the standard finish it is just grey. I can upload a pic if you want.

Its fairly accurate. The weight includes the std battery/optical drive.
Yes,both slots are easily accessible from beneath the laptop.

OK it seem there is a ram door, and someone said they really are the same computer. Now for the finish questions please...

A picture would be nice if you have it handy. I am mostly concerned with finishes scraping off and looking bad. If its silver on plastic then it will probably. That is one reason I like plain laptops...

***I forgot the most important question of all. Is the touch pad glossy like the dv2000t people seem to complain about it.

It is scratch resistant to a certain extent. I have had mine for 5 months now and the only scratch on the lid was due to my fault. It wont chip/peel off on its own unless the laptop is scrapped along with a sharp object. I carry the laptop in my backpack every day and so far I have no real complaint about the finish. It does attract fingerprints easily, otherwise it has been pretty solid.

I have both the standard finish and the glossy(imprint) finish V3000's & I prefer the glossy/smooth finish of the touch pad. I guess it comes down to persoanl preference. I would suggest checking out the touch pad at a retail store to see how comfortable you would be with the smooth touch pad.

They only seem to be selling them with glossy at the moment... You are saying the imprint finish means the touchpad is glossy and no finish means its not. Here is a picture of the lappy I would replace you can see its worn...

I would go standard if it were offered. I think, based on your pics does the inside look a neat in standard or is it plain black?

(edit: I could probably check a dv series touchpad...)

I think the imprint is better both in terms of durability & looks. The only drawback being it attracts finger prints & dust is more visible. I doubt the finish will degrade like your old laptop, but I don't know how it will last over a few years(the series has been only on the market for 6-7months).

It looks exactly the same except doesn't have the glossy(imprint) finish & quickplay.

Standard on the left, the imprint finish on the right...

I tried out glossy touchpad its a non-starter I think. Or it would require lots of adjustment to use.

Again, is the non-imprint touchpad the normal matte touchpad or is the surface like the dv2000t's? Or something else...

Thanks for the pictures. I'm sure someone down the line will find them useful too.

The surface texture is slightly different between the imprint & non imprint touch pads. The non imprint ones offer more resistance than the glossy touchpads on the imprint finish. They dont look a whole lot different but I can definately feel the difference when I use it. The dv2000t(imprint finish) should have the same sort of finish as the imprint V3000.

More resistive? I think that is what most people are complaining about on the glossy ones. My finger slightly moist just struck to the glossy pad, it glides nicely on my standard dark gray luster (think luster photo paper) touchpad.

Yesh, they are more resistive. The difference between the 2 touch pads are hard to describe...but the glossy touch pads are very smooth so you can slide your fingers pretty easily but I have found the stndard one to stick more often. Maybe its just me but if your fingers are moist/soft the glossy ones might be worse then the standard finish but with dry fingers IMO the glossy is better.

my fingers tend to have oil on them which makes them stick the gloss for the same reason as you leave finger prints...

    Thanks for all your help.
