ok, i have the V3000Z and what your saying is that everything on the notebook turns on like the blue lights and everything but does not want to boot up?
im guessing its a hard drive problem. try to listen when you turn on your notebook again if you hear the hard drive spinning, if not then you probably have to send it back to hp (if your still under warranty) or buy your own 2.5 hard drive.
but just a question, how long did you have this notebook?
i got mine back in January, haven't had any problems with it since, except for that one time when i thought taking out the battery was a good thing, so it would not loose its longevity but i accidentally unplugged it from the ac adapter when it was shutting down because i thought i left the battery in the notebook. now every time i shut down windows xp changes from 16:9 to 4:3 and a portion of the left had of the screen goes black every time i shut down. but i reformatted my hard drive to make space for vista dual boot, and now it does not do that anymore.
did u have any real problems with your notebook? -
I had the same problem after almost two months. I was surfing the net and the screen just blanked out. I tried to reboot but all it did was having a series of beeps. The blue lights came on and I could hear the hard drive spin but nothing but beeps. I called HP and they were very helpful. I couldn't return it to the store because it was passed the 30 days return policy. Since it was under warranty, HP sent me a prepaid box to send my unit in. After 3 days they called and said that the unit was sent to Corporate for further eval due to the repair center couldn't find out what was wrong with it. At the end HP sent me a new unit but it was a Pavillion and not a Compaq. The Pavillion looks sturdier than the Compaq but Compaq looks better.

If the Compaq logo isn't coming up then it's locking up before even getting to your HD. That's bad. Can you get into the BIOS? (Hit F10 about when the Compaq logo should be coming up.)
It's possible that you damaged the battery connector. It's worth taking a look and making sure none of the pins are shorting against each other. I advise leaving the battery in place. How well the battery was manufactured matters more than anything else and there's nothing you can do about that. -

I sent them the unit sans battery and accessories as instructed. The rep told me to back up my hard drive data but it was going to be difficult since the unit was basically dead. Then they said to have someone back it up but then I have to pay for that and I didn't want to have someone back it up and read the info. I just sent the unit as is... I expressed my concern to the Corporate guy and said that they will delete all the HD data thoroughly. I didn't really have much confidential informations on the HD but went ahead and changed all log-in passwords that was listed. It's all about trust I guess, none of my login sites has been compromised but if it were, I would know where it came from. I recommend to only use a usb memory stick to store confidentials or the memory card. I've read that Compaq screens aren't identical to the Pavilion models.
When you call the support line they will attempt to revived the unit by following their instructions.. something like.. take out battery, wait a minute, reboot and same with the memory cards, take out one, take out the other, and also to hold the power button for a minute also without the battery. I guess this resets everything.
Keep good notes, who you spoke with, dates, times, and any docket order numbers and the tech support repair numbers they will give you. The box comes with precut styrofoams to snugly fit your laptop. My advice, just call them up and send it in. Don't waste time fiddling with it, it might actually cause more damage and then HP will be hesistant to repair it. -
yes TwiztOG43 you are exactly right, my led indicator light is turn on blue but it didn't show anything, even i can't hit bios. and yes again I heard my hard drive spinning. but I have an issue, this problem only happen when using only with my battere, if I plug my AC adaptor, the problem rarely appear (yes rarely, but sometimes happen too).
and I can't take my notebook back to HP eventhough I'm still under Hp's warranty (I brought this notebook des 2006), because I'm currently and using this notebook in Indonesia (not USA)
so the problem is my hard drive ?? or something else ??
and for kanehi, when u send your notebook back to HP, HP replace your compaq to your pavilion with same spec ? -

It's definitely not the HD since you're not getting past the BIOS POST. I'm going to guess that there's a voltage regulation problem on the motherboard and you're going to need a real hardware technician to fix it. I emphasize the word "guess".
-
if your guess right, it would be a big problem to me, because it's hard to find a hardware technician who understand about notebook's mainboard.
and it's cost more than 200USD to change into the new one -

There's an easy way to test that: remove the HD and try to boot. You should at least be able to get into the BIOS. You could try booting a MemTest86+ CD. Don't forget to remove the battery before doing hardware changes like removing the HD.
I suppose it's possible that the BIOS is locking up when it scans the HD but I've never heard of that happening before. -
I tell you now it's an early warning sign that the motherboard is going to go dead soon. If it happens only with the battery and
"rarely" of ac mode it's a sure bet that one day it will be completely useless. There must be a HP repair near you. Have you called the numbers listed when you bought the laptop. They must have a support number near you. -
are u sure? also to the other v3000z owner, how old is your notebook? and since your saying it usually only happens when u use the battery, well you could have damaged it, so it could be a power problem, but then again a HDD problem, worse ^^ what kanehi said mobo ^^.
but damn this concerns me because i have the same model, and i have dropped my notebook twice! like a two foot drop from my bed. (fell asleep while typing an essay) and i woke up to a loud noise, and i was looking for my notebook and saw it on the floor. but right now your saying its not so bad, carpet is kinda soft but i have tile so i was really pissed!. there is some dents i had to cover especially one thats on the bottom right palm rest, where one of the rubber pads meets the right palm rest. i guess it closed the lid hard when it fell. but damn, no problems yet. have you dropped your notebook before?
V3000z sometimes didn't want to boot up what happen ? help pls
