Got my V4000T yesterday. So far, I really love it. I wavered on whether to get it or the dv4000, but I'm happy with my choice. The build quality/look of the Compaq just really seems better to me than the HP. I also picked the glossy screen, and don't regret it.

I ordered it with minimum RAM and ordered two 512meg sticks of Corsair from newegg. One stick works, the other does not, which sucks. Gotta RMA the bum stick.

I like the touchpad so far, but here's a question. I really dig the "page forward/page back" gesture along the top of the pad. The problem is, this works great in IE, but I'm a Firefox man. Anyone gotten this to work in Firefox?

I am also ordering the V4000T. I guess it can be advantegous to order the RAM seperately to save money and get a faster shipping date, what kind of RAM did you order? Can you send me the link. Thanks.

I got 1gig (2x512mb) of PC4200 (533) G-Skill from NewEgg.com It doesn't seem to mention it on the site. But when I got it, it said it was designed for Dual Channel. Which is great :D since I got two! So far it works flawlessly. 'Course I've only had it installed for like a couple of days. ;)

Oh yeah, I almost forgot! I ordered it 3-day UPS but it showed up the very next day!!! :D

Ouch! You better hurry up! Looks like the prices are going back up. I got it just a few days ago for like a few bucks cheaper. :(

    Good luck!

Regarding the RAM you just added... adding mem makes your warranty go void? I plan to buy a v4000t and I would like to go all the way with 2GB ;) ... however, it costs a lot in Compaq's website... do you think that if I add my own RAM chips the laptop's warranty would not apply?

    Thanks!

Upgrading Rams and Hard drives does not void HP's warranty. :hp:

Yes - but make sure you don't fiddle with the CPU - that WILL void your warranty ;)

Thanks Onliluv! In fact I also emailed HP and they confirmed this. :) I plan to buy two 1GB sticks on my own and found out that I could save about $200 in the process... :) And about $105 if I also get a 7,2000 RPM HD on my own. Yay!

I don't know why, but people @ HP say that you can only use DDR memory on this computer... I guess they're thinking I'm ordering a normal v4000

This is the first time I'm actually opening a laptop and removing RAM bought by myself, so I could really use some help here :D I found these chips:

    Kingston:

(This one is supposed to be designed for HP laptops... the Kingston Memory Finder suggests the use of this one)

    This is another Kingston...

    And a G-SKILL...

Will each one of them fit my v4000t? I plan to buy two... Dual Channel goodness mwahah

    Thanks in advance guys!
