Hey Guys!
Ok so i got my v4000T! its a beauty! I really do like this lappy, im on it now, nice performance, great looks, great deal ($1,044 after rebates and app disc)!
Only problem is that i initially bought this for animation use, however i wont need it for that purpose any longer. All i need it for is Internet, Word, Itunes, and Watching Movies.
And the V4000t is a little larger/heavier than i really would like. Ideally a 5lb, 14 inch is better for me for portability..So im wondering if id be better off with the v2000z?
However i'll keep the v4000t it if i am gettin a much better computer overall in terms of performance (Pen M in V4000t vs. Turion in V2000z). I dont know if a Pen M is better than the Turion? I also noticed the screen is much stronger on the V4000t than the V2000z (the v200z had rippling if pushed from behind, however the v4000t does not.)
So here are my specs:
Intel Pen M 7225A 1.6 Ghz
128 MB X700 - wont be gaming, wont be rendering either anymore.
512 MB
Briteview Widescreen 15.4
80 GB 5400 HDD
DVD RW/CD RW
Speedbooster Wireless
6 Cell - last 2.5 hrs
6.5 lbs - slightly larger than my ideal notebook.
SO compare my specs with a V2000z - Price doesnt matter since they are only $100 in difference.
V2000z if i get this one instead would be:
Turion ml 30
Same specs as above exept comes with X200 which is fine since i wont need it for animation.
comes to $900
So guys, if you didnt need something for gaming/animation and wanted light/small laptop, is the V4000t worth keeping since im comprimising on the wieght and size? Which would you get the v4000t or the v2000z - i want whatever had a better processor and most battery life, least heat.
Thanks guys.!

Well I don't think its a big deal - its only about a pound, nothing major. I'd keep the V4000t unless you're a huge traveler (BTW if you are, you should be looking at 12" laptops) the X700 is about 16 times as powerful as the GPU in the V2000Z (it only has 32MB dedicated VRAM and the X700 is already 4X more powerful than the 128MB dedicated version). I'd stay withe V4000t - final answer
-
yea i know its only 1.5 lbs, but the lighter the better for me b/c its in my bag every day, and i have a really bad back.
The GPU isnt my concern anymore- no gaming, no animation. My main need is which ever laptop is better in the other areas (performance - amd turion or intel pen m, and battery life, and ofcourse durability/heat/longevity) -
If I were you and you really want something lighter and don't plan to game I would go with the v2000z. It will be less expensive and save you money overall.

the P-M beats the turion in a lot of benchmarks like the PI thing. but in realworld use, there is no difference. unless you do benchmarks all day j/k
i do have the 14 widescreen and bring my notebook with me most of the time, but with a 12-cell battery it feels as heavy as some if the lighter 15.4 notebooks like my old acer aspire 2001 (8-cell). sometimes i want to get a 12" notebook like the fujitsu s2000 series(check that out too). but i will stick with my v2000z because it suites me fine.
i do a little bit of 3d modelling, photoshop, painter etc. .. and works great. but the rendering i leave to a desktop with profesional GL cards. -
Ok guys, thanks
Neero - u currently have a v2000z? and doing 3d modeling on it? wow. I was trying to find someone to tell me that they have used a v2000z for 3d. But no longer do i need that ability. anways, im still torn between the two lappies, the v4000t is stronger built and has a Pen M but the V2000z is lighter.... i hate being indecisive.... -
Hey guys, ok so im making a decision tommorow between keeping my v4000t w/above specs or exchanging it for a v2000z. Any one can give me feedback what to do? I dont know if i get the v2000z instead if im losing alot of durability and performance frm the v4000's P-M processor. So im gona break down the pros and cons of V4000t vs. v2000z. Help me out guys please!
Pros of getting V2000z-
1) will be much lighter and smaller (that 1.5 lbs DOES make a diff to me since i carry around books and a purse in addition with it every day)
2) forgot to include bluetooth (so can add it in)
3) may upgrade to a 12 cell - however the wieght there also stops me.
Cons of Getting v2000z
1) have to do that underclocking thing - i really dont want to mess with that.
2) Turion or sempron - want whicheverwill create less heat and most batt life - less heat = longer lasting processor right??
3) will end up costing the same almost (1,000) and is not as good as a computer.
4) seems like everyone who has v2000z's have issues with them - theres so many crazy issues like undervoltin/clocking, memory conspiracy - all that stuff i dont want to deal with. If i can just use it out of the box it would be awsome.
Pros of keeping V4000t
1) get a stonger lappy compared to the v2000z, Pen M definitly runs much cooler than the turion in the v2000z
2)has 4 USB and firewire
3) beautiful lappy - looks like an apple - nice widescreen
4) only costed 1,044 and got a free printer
Cons of Keeping V4000t1) bought this one b/c of x700 for animation use initially, but now have switched careers and will not need the x700 card. Unless the x700 card helps in say movie watching then it may be worth keeping.
2)however it is a little too heavy/bulky for me.
SO guys it comes done to again whether the v2000z is 'crappier' or not ...if it is then its worth keeping a heavier notebook. If the turion or maybe even sempron is ok and will be a processer that is dependable then i'll make the switch.
Also can i use the bluetooth integrated in the notebook for a wireless headset and for a wireless mouse (so i wouldnt need to always plug in the usb?)
Thanks guys -
Have you considered the HP DV1000 series? This is basically a smaller 14" version of the v4000t. Only thing is there is no Compaq twin. It is only available with the HP version. However, it does still have a Pentium M processor. It has Intel Integrated graphics. My guess is that this would get 4-5 hours or more of battery life with the larger battery. Also, it is only 5.37 pounds and it has quickplay which means you can watch DVD's on it without even booting up the computer. I would definitely consider it if I were you. Sounds like a good fit to me.

Neero - Im really suprised that v2000z does somewhat work with maya. I woulda been a happy gurl two months ago had i known that! ( i returned the v2000z got a V4000t for animation cuz it has a x700) BUT now i wont be doing animation so i coulda just kept the V2000z! anyways, i still cant decide if i should return this v4000t - its a beauty just too big - however i just went to best buy to see the v2000z again and gosh the screen was all jacked up in the store! the sales guy said thats cuz its been on disply for 6 months and pple mess with it. Im thinkin well other lappies are on display well over 6 monts and those are fine! so i really am doubting the screen quality on the v2000z - maybe thats why pple get warrenties eh? anyway, any one have opinions between v4000t and v2000z again pen m vs. turion lemme know cuz i cant decidde!

Being past owner and current owner of HP's laptops. I've owned ZV6005us model and my aunt owns at DV1000 model that can be compared with the DV4000 due to the design and style of it (quickplay and what not). Her's is an special edition which even looks better. Anyhow, the 2000's that I've seen from my coworkers and at stores are really cheap quality and flimsy in built. Yeah it will look great initially, but I say in 2 years just like dell's, it wont last and will end up being out dated. While the better build of DV4000 will be sufficed due to better GPU and stronger built in keyboard/screen. As a salesman, my cousin sold way more of the DV1000 model vs the V2000 just due to build in quality. Those are my opinions of your dilema's. Both are great lappies but almost like 2 completely different build (quality wise).

i own a v2000z IMO it is not flimsy built. I've been using it for 6 months now an there are no signs of wear anywhere. I have seen worse on this price-range. but the dv's sure look more ... "bling" And the quickplay buttons are nice too. instead of pressing "Fn" key like on the v2000 to play a DVD
V4000t Arrived, to keep or not to keep?
