Okay,
I have a Compaq V6210US notebook that has been working fine for 6 months or so. I am running Vista Ultimate and when I updated the network driver VIA Windows updates it made the WIFI stop working completely. I thought the adapter failed and bought another one but that didn't work either so I reinstalled Windows and it worked fine for a few days until Windows automatically updated to the new driver again. Now I cant seem to get the old driver to reinstall and can't get it working at all. I do not want to reinstall Windows AGAIN and just wanna know if anyone else has ran into this at all? Ideas???
Thanks,
Matt

try uninstalling the new driver, then install the old one

When I uninstall the driver it just says "FOUND NEW HARDWARE" again and then says "READY TO USE" again. I disabled automatically update drivers when it finds new hardware but it still does it...

Does anyone have ANY ideas? I cannot seem to figure this out...

The updated driver disabling the wifi might just be a coincidence. Your problems might be related to the recent recall HP issued for the Presario/Pavillion V6000/DV6000 series. One of the first symptoms listed is about the wifi failures. I would recommend checking up and see if your laptop comes under that recall...

Also try updating to the latest BIOS for your model from HP...

Well I had it working a minute ago, updated to latest BIOS and device manager doesnt see the WIFI adapter anymore...calling HP now. Looks like thats EXACTLY whats wrong. I am having the exact symptoms they are talking about.
THANKS! I would have never found that on my own...
