I have been having a problem the past few weeks. On my dv9201 with nvidia 6150, the VGA out is not trasmitting the red channel consistently. As a result all the colours appear messed up.

The problem seems to be intermittent. It sometimes fixes itself, but less and less. I've tried playing with the cable in the port and that does not seem to make a difference. I've also tested the machine and cable, and I get the same problem on other monitors, and the VGA cable works with other machines with no problems.

I played with Powerstrip a few weeks ago with little success. I have since de-installed it. Sometimes, the problem SEEMS to disappear when I tap the machine around the LCD bezel or above the touchkeys. I don't know if this is just coincidence or not. Are there any VGA components in that area of the machine that would influence this?

I rely on the VGA on here and not having it work properly is quite devestating.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas of what I could do?

    Thanks so much :(

Nope, the same thing does not happen on the LCD.

Actually, so I called HP. I know this model laptop has had an extended main board recall on the original warranty for an extra year. I asked her if taking HP up on this warranty offer would fix the VGA because it is attached to the part of the computer they have to replace...

She said it would likely fix it!

So, I am going to send it in as per the recall replacement and see if that works! That would be great.

Thanks. PS, my wireless was starting to intermittently kick out too yesterday, so I think the heat my notebook produces may be starting to affect the other chips. I think the mainboard replacement may be the issue here. I'm just reading other threads on this now and this is what I am finding.
