:( Oh guys ... I was SO happy to get my Logitech VX Nano from Amazon yesterday (especially since I went to traffic court and totally got busted). I plugged it into the USB port on the right - it was a little snug. Took it out, did some other stuff - then I went to use my computer again, but this time plugged it in the left USB port. Finished, went to pull it out ... didn't budge. Wiggled, pushed, pulled ... nothing.

Tweezers ... nothing ... pliers ... plastic receiver piece broke off - metal connector still stuck in HP USB port.

Finally, after thinking I would DESTROY my laptop, I pulled with pliers on the metal USB connector and it came out. However, a peice of metal also came out with it from the USB.

TURNS OUT - the receiver had a USB connector with holes on either side of it in addition to the usual square holes on the top and bottom (look at a USB connector if you have no idea what I'm talking about). If you take a flashlight and look inside your USB port, you may or may not notice metal prongs sticking out on the left and right side that angle themselves inward. These are (from what I can guess) to keep the connector in the USB port snug. However, because of the receiver's design, those prongs clicked into the two holes in the receiver's connector LOCKING it into the USB port. When I pulled, those prongs held it in.

That's why when I finally got the metal connector out, the prongs were all bent and sticking out of the USB port - one of them broke off (that was the little metal piece I mentioned). I bent the one remaining prong on my laptop back into place and it seems to be working fine and when I put something in there, it's still snug.

Needless to say, I sent back the Logitech VX Nano for a replacement, but should I even bother putting it back in? I noticed the ports on the right side do not have prongs like this - they're slightly different.

Is there anything else you would do about this situation had it happened to you? Like I said, aside from a minor scratch from the pliers, the USB port seems to be working fine - I have NO IDEA how nothing broking internally - I was pulling pretty hard to get it out.

If you've gotten nothing from this, it's that you should alway check your USB port's design to make sure nothing gets stuck in there permanently.

I thought all 2.0 USB ports were powered? I think it was just designed differently. That is, I think the two USB ports on the right are directly connected to the motherboard and the one on the left is part of something else or vice-versa. I would imagine each manufacturer makes them they're own way - that's why some USB ports are deeper, looser, tighter than others.

My USB stick actually gets stuck sometimes, its quite tight but never actually got stuck before

Use a bluetooth mouse bro. Save you the hassles of recievers sticking out and getting stuck

I have the vX Nano also. After a week or so or regular use I noticed that the these little metal prongs on the receiver were starting to go outwards. It seems like these prongs hold the receiver together. I wonder if this is what happened caused your problem. You should call Logitech and see if they can do something about it.

Flipfire - I don't have Bluetooth on my laptop - it was pre-configured. Besides, BT isn't as quick.

mntrr (and that other stuff) - I don't think it's that ... it was a combination of the female HP USB port and the male logitech USB receiver. Take a look at my diagram (HP kept bugging me to explain it to them).

oh i didnt know that, thought all special editions came with it.

I dont think BT would be that much slower or less responsive, its not a gaming mouse your using anyway. The old logitech recievers were only 27mhz and bluetooth should be better than that.

I wish the vx nano came in bluetooth. No attachments, its much more handy. Whats the laser dpi for the vx nano anyway?

As far as bluetooth. They don't have a nano but they have a Mx Revo. in the works.

It's defaulted at 800 dpi to conserve battery power, but I think you can adjust it somewhere.

Look at the diagram I posted just before. There is NO WAY to get it out without possibly damaging your laptop. I contacted both via e-mail - Logitech wanted me to call them:

    --------------------------------------

I understand that the Vx Nano receiver got stuck in your USB port and when you finally removed the receiver your laptop USB port got damaged. If this is not correct please let me know.

Due to the severity of this issue, I would advise that you contact our support at the number below and enquire about your laptops USB port. They will be able to help you further.

HP was SO annoying - first they said I must have forced it in and then I *****ed them out and they then responded by saying I should go to an authorized warranty service center (which is like Best Buy, CompUSA, etc.) which is what I should have done in the first place - this way, if they would have broken it, it would have been their problem. Luckily, the port still works after attacking it with piers.

Here is the link for their authorized warranty repair locator (in US):
