Memory looks modular according to the service manual. It may be using something like low-profile single-sided dimms (they have done that in a few elitebook's in the past), so standard 16gb dimms may not work.
Also, I am confused as to which model gets dual thunderbolt 3 ports (instead of 1x usb-c + 1x thunderbolt 3).
I wonder what kind of TDP HP has set on the processor if they are using a 150W power supply instead of the 90W that is used on the 8550u + MX150 model.hmscott likes this. -
For models with Intel® Core™ i7-8705G processor:; 2 Thunderbolt™ 3 (Data Transfer up to 40 Gb/s, Power Delivery, DP1.2, HP Sleep and Charge); 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (HP Sleep and Charge); 1 HDMI v2.0; 1 headphone/microphone combo
Are there flash drives that work with thunderbolt 3? I have zero experience with those ports.
And I just got Estimated delivery date: Apr 20. That seems like forever.Last edited: Apr 2, 2018hmscott likes this. -
It'll be very interesting to see the battery life on it compared to the xps 15 2-in-1. Also I'm guessing it's the full 65w TDP that Vega GL has, compared to the throttled version of the XPS, so a performance comparison will be interesting too.

I think Dell have made a massive pricing error with their new xps 15" 8705g. which is £600.00 !!!!!! more expensive than the new HP Spectre x360 8705g. The dell doesnt have a finger print sensor, or volume rocker on the side, it doesnt have a numpad, we will have to wait several more months to get the stylus with tilt function, you have to pay extra £50 for a sleeve for the Dellm but ts free with with HP and the Dell looks plain boring and ugly. I cannot wait to get my HP spectre which i pre-ordered, due for delivery on the 10/04/18

XPS 9575
Pros
+Smaller footprint/bezels
+Centered keyboard and track pad
+Wacom digitizer/100% aRGB
+Potentially better thermal performance
Cons:
-"Dell Tax" of several hundred pounds over the HP
-Smaller battery/Poor battery life (4K)
-No included pen / legacy ports / webcam location (at the bottom so it looks up your nose)
-No numpad
-No finger print sensor (optional)
-No Free included sleeve
-No Volume rocker
-Looks horrible and boring
- MASSIVE CON, No HDMI out, it will require a docking station. dual 4k unconfirmed.
HP Spectre x360 2018
Pros
+Significantly cheaper
+Web cam well placed at the top of the screen
+More user-upgradeability, (able to upgrade SSD, replace battery, although this will require unscrewing the bottom cover,)
+Included pen/legacy ports
+Bigger battery
+Looks sexy
+Num pad, larger track pad
+ HDMI out, Dual 4k confirmed
Cons
-Potentially worse thermals/slightly worse display and digitizer
And the winner is?Atma likes this. -
Spectre for me. In addition to what you mentioned:
- Standard size SD slot, not micro
- Standard A-size USB and USB C, not just C
- Standard HDMI 2.0 jack and Thunderbolt vs just Thunderbolt.
- Intel Wireless

I just saw the new HP spectre x360 with i7 8705G and Vega graphics and I'm very tempted to get one!
My only concern is the display. I know the Dell XPS 2-in-1 4k display will probably be 100% AdobeRGB like all the other XPS models (but actually I think you can't select the 4k option yet).
Do you think the 4k display on the Spectre x360 is anywhere near that quality?
Also, does it have a much bigger footprint? I couln't find anything about it yet.
This is the config I'm looking for

Are there any laptop models out there with the GH graphics, like on the 8809 / 8709 CPU's?
https://ark.intel.com/products/codename/136847/Kaby-Lake-G
And, each of these Kaby Lake G with Vega Graphics also list having the standard Intel 630 iGPU... so the Vega GPU is a dGPU, and they use Optimus for iGPU battery saving?
Comparison of the 8809 and 8705:
https://ark.intel.com/compare/130409,130411
The main difference besides the GPU bandwidth is the power rating, 100w for the 8809 and 65w for the 8705, I haven't seen any comparison benchmarks yet.
Please post your benchmark results when you get your new laptop!!Last edited: Apr 3, 2018Atma likes this. -

I haven't seen any 8809/8709 laptops yet, just NUC's. The 8809 has firestrike scores between a 1060 and 1060max q. Not too bad at all. Sadly I think the 100w will keep it out of the laptop market, at least in any of the smaller laptops.
And yeah they still use the 630 for power saving and the Vega for performance.
From the limited reviews I've seen the 8705 scores around the level of a 1050ti in firestrike.Simon Evans, hmscott and Atma like this. -
The Dell is very slightly smaller and lighter at 13.9 x 9.2 x 0.6 and 4.4 pounds. The HP is 14.13 x 9.84 x 0.76 and 4.59 pounds.
The HP is only 1" bigger than my Dell Inspiron 13" 2 in 1 and weighs about the same (according to my scale). -

The pannels will be the same for the new Vega systems. The Dell has significantly better Adobe RGB and a good amount better %sRGB... But the HP has significantly better black levels and contrast. So it depends on what you value. Both screens have Approx 1000Hz PWM (which should not be noticed even by sensitive users according to Notebook check; the higher number the better)

Intel Kaby Lake G Vega M GPU
Published on Apr 5, 2018
The Dell XPS 15 2 in 1 is far from a conventional laptop, but it’s an experiment that (mostly) goes right. With an advanced new keyboard and some surprisingly good gaming performance, the XPS 15 2 in 1 is a vision of the future.

Gives a full set of benchmarks and gaming tests for the Vega M which I guess will be pretty similar to the HP scores. -
Yep. Will be interesting to see a bench Mark of the new hp spectre and dell xps side by side

HP will be releasing a more powerfull and better lookiing option at the same size. With 6core/12Thread CPU and Nvidia P1000 (about GTX 1060 level)

That is impressive. I wonder when it will be released.
Cannot keep up with it lolAtma likes this. -
Impressive specs but as soon as Quadro, Workstation and 6 core Xeon are mentioned you know its going to be £1000s more than the Spectre X360, won't be cancelling my current order yet

My order still says "awaiting stock". I placed the order on the 27/03/18 and the money left my account straight away. So i have been waiting over 10 days now (5 working days). Delivery is due on the 12/04/18

What will you do when you receive your new HP laptop? install a clean version of windows 10 without all of the bloat ware (TBH, i am not sure what is included) or leave it as is and just remove the bloat ware you do want?

Mine still says waiting Stock, delivery on the 12th and no money has been taken yet (Ordered 27th), as for rebuilding, pretty easy to uninstall bloatware nowadays and get rid of free trials, happy with MS Defender. I will probably upgrade to Win 10 Pro (have a spare key) so I can activate bitlocker (Microsoft's Encryption) at least it will be useless to anyone who steals it (hopefully unlikely)

They said mine has an estimated build date of the 12th. I hope that means the shipping date since that's what it's shown since I ordered it. -
Had a look at Order this morning and no estimated delivery date, when I clicked on 'Not received item yet' it came back with estimated delivery of 11th, so hopefully Wednesday, still no money left account
-
I have just received an order update from hp saying that my order has been shipped and I can expect delivery within 48hrs

Just ordered mine tonight. Added the Omen Accelerator EGPU and will fill with 1070. I'll be timing the purchase of a Gigabyte Aorus 1080 Gamer Box to try to get them all to arrive at the same time. So I'll have 30 days to try to get the Vega working with an EGPU.
Anyone else trying to get an egpu working with theirs? I'd love to hear how it's going and tips if others are trying.
Cheers

Well FedEx site says, "Tue 4/17/2018 by 8:00 pm". I was hoping sooner, but at least it's on the way.Last edited: Apr 10, 2018hmscott likes this. -
OK first impressions favorable, did not get much time to use it yesterday, Screen great quality, managed to stream a 40GB 2160p movie via Wi-Fi from my NAS, very smooth and no stutters and my router is on the floor below, so Wi-Fi excellent. Need to adjust to default screen setup I believe as the Black bars above and below movie where more dark greyish. Speed wise the included M2 SSD (1TB) appears to be lightning fast (I have M2 SSD on Desktop and previous HP Spectre). Nice touch it Auto detects Tablet/Desktop Mode. Only slight negative it is a bit on the heavy side, but I can live with this.
Hopefully post some benchmarks later, not used pen or or played a game on it yet.custom90gt, Simon Evans, Atma and 1 other person like this.
