I purchased (2) 1GIG memory sticks in anticipation of upgrading the 1 Gig zd8000 I originally bought. I have since exchanged the zd for a dv8000, which also shipped with only 1Gig of memory. My question is whether or not I can used these same 1GIG memory sticks in the dv8000. The memory arrived from hp AFTER I made the exchange.

I noticed that the zd uses 533 DDRs and the dv shipped with 333 DDRs. Just wanted to check in here before I attempted to make the upgrade. I remember reading in here that speed isn't a major issue as long as the speed of both chips are the same. I'd hate to have to ship these back to HP and re-order. Took them quite a while to arrive.

    Thanks folks!

    dv8000 use DDR PC2700 (333MHz) or DDR1
    zd8000 use DDR2 PC4200 (533MHz) or DDR2

    Not compatible!

Thanks Kondlao, all I needed to hear. Back they go! But another question. Can I safely get these memory sticks from sources other than HP? These things were $179 each. Seems as though I can do better than that,... but safely is the question. Don't want smoke coming outta these vents. Any vendors take trade-ins on replaced 512 sticks?

Yeah..... $179 for a gig is slightly over price.
Your dv8000 will come with PC2700. If it already have a gig in there (1x 1GB) then I would recommend just add the same speed RAM.
You can check out newegg.com and they have many to choose from.
Corsair is a memory of choice for me (all the way). But you need to find one you like that has a life time warranty on it.
    Kingston, Viking, Crucial, etc....

Now if you didn't have that much in ther to start with. Like 2x 256 (512) like I got.
I was going to recommend going with PC3200 (400MHz). But that's another topic.
