Hi all,
I have the latest drivers on my DV9000T. When I boot the machine, the network icon has that red slash across it, then about 20 seconds later it has the the the little yellow "?" on it, then about 20 seconds after that, its giving me the Internet icon and all is well. It just seems that it takes forever for it to authenticate. I'm on a Linksys WRT54G wirelessly with the latest firmware running WPA AES. even the little weather gadget will come up with "service not available because of this.. Any suggestions.. thanks all tryton

Almost everyone who has Vista and Conexant audio has this same problem. Its belived to be something between those too causing the issue. If you look in your performance logs youll also notice to complete the boot cycle it takes around 2min 45secs which is a bit long for a boot up.
-
Vista has some problems with some routers.Try flashing to the lastest.
Also, are your TCP/IP settings on DHCP or are they on static IP ? -
Thanks for the replies, I have the latest firmware and drivers for vista, and I'm on a static ip. I just counted the seconds, it took a full 60 seconds to get from the red slash to the regular network icon, and 147 seconds total to give me the Internet icon. man alittle over 2 1/2 minutes to connect to the Internet is crazy. I never had this problem with xp. so this is a known issue? thanks again.. Tryton

It doesnt take 2.5min to get to the net just a complete Vista bootup cycle. Also if you will notice even if the red x is across the net icon you can still use the internet a few moments after boot up.
-
I have noticed that as well, it just seems like it takes way too long. so is this a "problem" or is this normal? thanks again
-
Its an issue. It shouldnt take so long for it to do all this at all. The audio drivers for Ultimate 64 that MS put out when Vista first came out worked better than HPs or the new ones on Windows update. Now its back to working like HP drivers and causing boot ups to be long and the network connection to take or appear to take longer
-
Thank you Byrds6, I just hopped in the audio thread and saw your comments in there as well. I hope this gets fixed. I had no idea that the audio driver I was using was all f-ed up. it's funny how HP & Conexant can't seem to get there **** together. any word on when a new driver will be available? thanks
-
No word at all actually. The only thing they have said is they are working on it. Its not just HP and Conexant though is everyone almost. Sonyericsson wont have Vista software for their phones until late 2Q and in September. Most everyone acted like they had no clue Vista was coming out.
-
Well, I guess the only thing I can do for now is reboot as little as possible
Thanks for all your help!
-
I know, this is crazy isn't it? I have the exact same problem. It takes FOREVER for me to connect to my network. Static IP, same router as you, WRT54G.
I can't believe how bad Vista is in the real world. Honestly. People have been beta testing this for over a year. What gives. Such a disappointment. I thought things would be much smoother than they are. Things weren't this bad when we all moved to XP. -
Its because no one can plan for every issue with every machine. Granted HP and others should have made sure drivers were ready for their systems before Vista commercial release. I believe the long boots are because of the audio drivers. That seems to what its pointing at anyway. Now the big corps should just get off their rears and dedicate all their time to making their customers happy.

On my new Vista 9000 machine my wireless connection is immediate, I mean as things are loading on the right hand task bar my internet is running. I run a netgear 824 router.
-
my brother says his comes up fast too, he has a dv6000, the only difference is he is using WEP. and a different router
-
I have a dv6191eu (amdx2), vista hp and a WRT54GL running hyperwrt using WPA sending SSID.
From a cold boot, I'm using the net in less than a minute.
I'm running all the latest drivers that are out for this machine. -
Hmm... I am running a WRT54G v.6 and WPA2. I wonder if we can narrow down the slow connections to our kind of routers or maybe the encryption type.
It just seems to sit there, about a minute, before it connects to the net, whether I'm logged in, or not.
I also recently stopped running the HP wireless assistant. It hasn't made a difference either way. Actually, it might have even speeded it up a bit.
Thoughts? -
Well, I tried a Little test.
1st I changed wireless security to WEP. no results same long no network icon
2nd I disabled security with same result.
Unless its a router issue, which I doubt. I am going to say its a driver issue -
HAPPY EASTER (Excuse for bump
-
I guess it might be the drivers then, because I have a broadcom Wifi internal card.
A happy easter to all! -
You could always try connecting to another wifi point on cold boot in a different place to see if it that helps matters at all.
I've had no problems with Vista and I've been running it for a few months now. -
If I was you, I would go to best buy or somewhere and purchase another brand of Router--Netgear 824 ($79) comes to mind and try that. It could be your router for some odd reason. Doing this would take out that variable. I mentioned Netgear 824 because I have it and its awesome when it comes to range/quickness and staying locked in with my wireless card.

I know what you are saying, but it doesn't ever drop connection. It just takes about 2.5 min to show its connected, even though when vista boots I can get right online. Plus it seems like everyone that has a Linksys WRT54G series router is having this problem. Since it worked flawlessly in XP, I don't want to get a new router. Maybe a driver or a new firmware is needed. I will sea that its a VERY Popular router, and I'm sure most people will not want to replace it for nothing..
-
May be a router driver problem, cause like I said mine hooks up immediatly even before all the apps are loaded--super quick
Only differance I see between yours and mine is I only have 1.66GHz and I have 2G ram and the Netgear rounter -
why don't we try to find a constant. If you have no problems with your connection on boot (red x doesn't last 60 seconds or more) please name your router, and if you are having problems please indicate your problem and router.. thanks.. Ill start
Red X lasts 60 seconds router is linksys WRT54G V2 -
Tryton even though the icon for the internet connection looks like its not enabled yet you can still open your web browser/email or whatever and use the net shortly after boot up. It just appears as though you cant. Dont wait on the icon it for some reason takes a while to let you know its working. As for the long boot ups thats total system boot up that takes up to 2min 45 secs since the drivers for the audio arent perfect. I blame it because in the begining when i used the first set of M$ drivers it fixed the problem of the long boots and the icon reporting even though sound qual was lower. On your next boot up try what i said and use the net. I do it all the time.
-
I realize that, I just wanted to know why some people report no problems and others like us have them. do they have different audio drivers? maybe different router.. thats all, so we can see if there is a common with all of us that are affected by this..

I have an intel.
Model was 3945 abg, IIRC -
I had the same problem here, I have a WRTG54G with moded firmware. The XP computer was blazing fast on download and upload speed while the VISTA laptop was barely getting 100kbps download speed and over 1900kbps upload. I reset the router to factory setting and reset the settings to my specs and now both are blazing fast with over 4700kbps down and 1800kbps up. The reason why others are probably not complaining is because they figured out, like myself, that it was as easy as resetting the router.
Test your speed at www.speakeasy.net/speedtest
Hope that helps... -
it's not the wireless speed, it's how fast the network authenticates. when booting up, theres a red x over my network for about a min or so, and the whole boot cycle is over 3 minutes. in xp, it was instantaneous.
Very slow Network authentication on cold boot
