When in coverflow view, i get very choppy and slow transitions. Is this normal? I also have a previous generation Imac, and they are smooth as silk.

Any ideas? tweaks to get a better Itunes experience?

My specs are listed in my signature.

    Thanks in advance to all

I've never seen Coverflow "Flow" at a fast speed with no lag. On a Mac it probably flows just fine, but iTunes on windows doesn't always do things as elegantly and with ease as it does on Mac.. That said, It can also be that you have large album art. Most of my music's album art is 600x600-ish , But I have a few which are much larger then that and can slow the "flow" when iTunes has to fetch and display them.

Well for a while my coverflow was choppy too even on an overclocked 8600M GS on my HP. I think all I did was update drivers, and it was fine. Now I've got a 14 inch hp with an Intel X3100 and it's smooth as silk!!!

Thanks guys for your answers. I know there are many other players, in fact, i prefer Windows media player to Itunes. But i still use Itunes to synchronize my ipods.

Are there any other programs capable of doing this?

Do you recommend downloading latest drivers from the Nvidia website? or HP?
    Thanks!

I would recommend doing it through Windows Update just so you know you are getting the Most Recent driver available. HP doesn't always list the most recent drivers.

I been searching for ages as well and found a solution last night
Its all about the driver for your graphics card.

I got an xps m1530 with a 8600M GT graphics card
and itunes was choppy as hell before with the original driver
    provided from DELL.

after installing the 174.74 driver my machine is smooth like silk. no lag on nothing
full frame coverflow etc. but all other graphics is really more responsive as well.

    to get the driver.

You have to follow the instructions and use the modded INF file.
If you try to install it direct it will say "you dont have compatible hardware bla bla"

I was a total beginner on this INF stuff last night but its easy if you follow
    it step by step.

My xps works like a dream now!!

Its nothing to do with Vista, memory or anything like that you can read in a number
    of other posts..
its just getting the correct driver for your nvidia card for your system.

    Good luck!

you could just not use coverflow, use list/grouped with artwork view instead.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I was hoping someone could help me with my NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS and Vista performance problem. I've settled on picking up a driver over at Laptopvideo2Go.com, but I'm wondering what the current recommended version is? I don't do any serious gaming -- I'm just looking for something that handles Aero decently, along with iTunes Coverflow. I'm currently running the 111.15 release, and it's just not getting the job done.

Is 174.74 still the recommended version for the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS from a stability/performance standpoint? Again, not looking to overclock or play any serious games.

    Thanks again for the help.

I personally don't know which version to use, but all I do know is that CoverFlow is not choppy because of you graphics card. I'm running an Intel X3100 and my itunes coverflow is smooth as silk. For the longest time I had an overclocked 8600M GS and coverflow was slower than you could believe, but really one day it just started working fine. I know this probably isn't the answer you're looking for, but I'm just telling you from my personal experience, a change in drivers will benefit Aero, but maybe not CoverFlow.
