Does anyone know whats the highest video card that can be installed in the Hp 8710w? I have the fx 1600m, is the 3600m the only option?

Yep, FX 3600m is the highest you can go.
But make sure that the motherboard supports it.
If yours came with the 1600m, I'm not sure you can upgrade.

Are you pretty sure you can't upgrade?

Someone on an MXM-based forum has installed an FX3700m in his 8710w. There's a few issues with doing that.
First, apparently the heatsink for the fx1600 wont fit. He ghetto-rigged the heatsink from his fx1600 and is trying to find someone who can modify/swap his heatsink with an fx3700 series. He can't benchmark this thing because it keeps overheating on him.
Second, he was having major issues in Vista with the card. Vista only recognized 256mb of video ram and the clock speed was underclocked to 330/300. Installing XP solved the problem.
So it's possible, just a hassle. On the other hand, an fx3600 is a direct swap and (should be) compatible with the heatsink(don't quote me on this, I haven't done it yet myself)
