    Video Codec Help, (noob), Please.

    About 4 months ago, i reinstalled windows xp, and for the first time yersterdaay i put a dvd into my laptop and windows media player and intervideo said i needed the right codec, so i downloaded a video codec bundle and when i put a dvd into my drive it plays but skips around non stop while it plays. I seriously need to fix this. Thanks. I have a hp dv5000

    Try the K-Lite Codec Pack. It has great support for several common formats. Perhaps you just got a poor MPEG-2 decoder.

    Ok thanks ill try that, do i need to delete the codec pack i downloaded, or can i just download it str8 up.

    You should be able to just install the K-Lite pack, but just to be safe, I'd remove the one you tried previously. Better to reduce the possibility of incompatibility.

    I believe you can simply "download it str8 up".
    I like the K-Lite Codec Pack a lot, too.

    Edit: No reason to keep both codec's though. So why not remove it first and play it safe, as sr.agent.riot said. Keep the previous codec installer (just in case) if you're concerned, but you shouldn't have any problems. :)

    K-lite Codec 3.0 or Combined Community Codec Pack either one is good
