Hello,
When using an HDMI connexion the video is ok but there is no sounds at all,
I have tried to select SPDIF in Sounds prop. but I did not found it. I have only my sounds card on the list.
I have updated BIOS and Sound driver.
Any idea?
Thanks
Craig.

I think some HDMI outputs only output video. I know that they're supposed to output both sound and video, I just remember reading something in the hardware forms about some companies only using HDMI for video. Might want to do a search or ask HP. I could be completely wrong on this.

Does a headphone to red/white component cable give you sound?
-
to answer your question Vespoli, Yes it does.
any advice or idea please?
Thanks
Craig -
the hp laptops dont do sound over hdmi (its only connected to the graphics card)
-
That's not true - my dv6500t does sound over HDMI. It sounds freaking amazing.
I just make my digital output my default speaker in my Realtek control panel, and voila. It's beautiful.

Additional note: if you do enable sound for HDMI this way, you won't have sound coming out of your laptop speakers until you switch it back. -
Hmm, I'm having the same problem as the original poster with the HDMI, no sound comign from TV, just the speakers.
Antalus, how did you get a Realtek sound card? Didn't your system come with a Conexant HD Audio? -
The answer to the no audio...Go into sound and make HDMI your default playback device...works perfect.

I have an Intel-Based computer - maybe that's why I have the realtek instead. Or maybe it's specific to the dv2500t's.
But yeah, what Flamenko said; just change your device to the HDMI or digital output option. -
I don't get it, how do we all have different sound cards???? Why did I get stuck with this crappy Conexant sound card, damnit.
Any help would be so appreciated guys, thanks! -
Try selecting SPDIF as your primary output.
-
God bless the forums, thanks guys, setting SPDIF to default worked! Don't ask me why I didn't think of this earlier.
Hey Antalus, question for you, do you change the resolution once you hook up your computer to like say a 60 inch LCD projection tv? I don't know what I'm supposed to change the settings to to get the best picture output, any suggestions would be great, thanks guys. -
Oh god, no. I typically let my driver take care of it for me; if it's available for you, go ahead and ramp it up, but I usually leave mine at default. If it's blurry, change it. Otherwise, I've always found that default was more than adequate. You'll be blown away.
On a side note, if you do dual monitors, your laptop will more than likely be converted from a widescreen resolution to a regular resolution, but that's just because your TV will require a regular resolution.
Anyways, glad I could help. -
Hi,
I'm trying to get digital audio of my DV9500t with a coaxial digital cable (1/8" mini to RCA) from the headphone jack hooked up to my receiver. I am using HDMI for video to a projector which doesn't have any sound capability. I have used the same cable and receiver to decode coaxial SPDIF out from my Dell running XP with this same setup, but I'm not getting any sound from my DV9500t.
My sound settings are below. Realtek Digital Audio is set to the default playback device. I have also tried setting it to Speaker Output without any luck getting the digital output. I tried setting up Media Center with SPDIF output, but I couldn't hear the test tone. I tried playing a DVD with Media Center and Media Player and didn't get digital output. I have also tried non-Dolby Digital sources, like stereo audio files. There was normal stereo sound when I deactivated the Digital Output and used analog speakers or the internal notebook speakers.
During my searches thought I found a post which suggested that the headphone SPDIF was disabled if you use HDMI output (since audio may possibly be passed over HDMI). Is there a way to check that or disable audio over HDMI and force SPDIF out of the headphone jack?
Am I using the right cable (1/8" mini to RCA) on the first headphone jack? (I tried both headphone jacks.) I looked inside both jacks with a flashlight and they don't seem to have an optical output, so I think they should be coaxial digital.
Any other thoughts or tips to get this working?
Thanks.

Any ideas on this? (^See my post above.)
The sub-standard S-video out is barely tolerable, but if I can't get Digital Audio out working, I think I may have to send this back to HP and keep shopping. Watching HiDef video is one of the main reasons I want to replace my old notebook. -
I hate on the hp's how if u wanna connect the lappy to your receiver u need to use a 3.5mm plug that stick out the front of the laptop! why did they have to put it there?
-
Well, I spent most of this evening working on it again. I even wasted some time with HP's online chat support and sent them an email.
I tried:
- 1/8" mini to RCA coaxial cable
- mini-TOS optical cable
- both headphone ports
- I even tried sending the coax digital input into the receiver's analog input, but didn't hear the typical digital noise that comes across. (I've sent other digital signals (DVD audio, my other notebook's digital out) to the analog input, just to hear what the raw digital signal sounds like.)
- Microsoft default HD audio drivers with S/PDIF selected
- HP's Realtek driver with Realtek Digital Output selected
- latest Realtek driver from the Realtek site with Realtek Digital Output selected
- various test signals in the driver/device settings
- DVD and videos in Media Player and Media Center
- Media Center's digital audio test signal
- Winamp streaming audio
I didn't get sound from any of the above combinations.
I wonder if the Digital Audio Output may be exclusively piped through the HDMI port, effectively disabling the S/PDIF output on HDMI enabled notebooks. Unfortunately, I do not have any equipment capable of HDMI audio. I use HDMI to connect to a video-only HDMI input on my video projector.
I really want to like this notebook, but so far I've run into three important basic features for me that are non-functional or dysfunctional:
firewire (faulty)
S-video out (faulty and non-configurable)
S/PDIF digital audio out (non-functioning)
I guess HP, Microsoft Vista, Nvidia and Realtek drivers are all to blame. Upgrading to a C2D is nice, but most of the multimedia functions don't function and can't compare to my 2 year old notebook running XP. I get the feeling it might be better to wait another generation or two until all the features listed in the product description work as advertised. -
I have a dv2000 with the same problem and have tried all the above methods as well to no avail. To further complicate matters, if i plug in using hdmi into an HD monitor instead of my philips 42 inch LCD tv, i get sound as well as video! But with my LCD TV, i only get video and no sound. I have Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 Driver version 4.36.7.60 installed.
6 calls to HP SUpport have been useless and so have numerous solutions posted online, and yes i have tried switching the default device to SPDIF Interface.
Please help someone! I am at my wits end! -
Have you checked your LCD's settings? Sometimes there's a setting in there to enable/disable sound through HDMI.
Video is Ok but No sounds with HDMI
