I still haven't gotten a laptop yet. These darn Dell coupons for the i6000 keep me from doing anything. [ :p] Anyway, I took a look at the v2000 at Best Buy again this weekend. I love the screen however it seemed to have a very limited viewing angle from looking at it straight on, not from the side, before it started to look dark. Now, it could have been a bad LCD, the lights at Best Buy, or the fact it was resting at waist level while I was standing (for the record, I did crouch down too), who knows.

I don't care about the viewing angle from the side, but can anyone tell me if the straight on viewing angle is too limited, eg. there is really only one good angle to view the screen before the images appear dark and it loses its color?

    Thanks

I have a V2000.The viewing angle is reasonable ,120 degrees total before the screen starts to appear dark, but does not lose color. At full brightness the angle increases considerably. For its price range,I think it is a reasonable angle and would not be fair to compare to a laptop costing twice as much.
Remember V2000 is targeted at students and not hardcore gamers [8D][8D]

I like to game but I keep it for the desktop. Just need something to use to/from work on the train. I have limited lap room while on the train; both in width and length... think typical coach airline seat in reclined position. This is holding me up from getting the Dell i6000. I made a cutout of the dimensions and it was tight. However, now the possible limited viewing angle on the v2000 seems like it might be an issue especially if I can't get the proper angle due to the seat in front of me.

    Thanks

You may want to check out the HP DV1000..same as the compaq other than the chassis design and a few other bits..
Some on these forums have said that the screen's are different and that the one on the HP is better.

Having said that I dont see any differences between the 2. The viewing anle on my V2000 is pretty good and you can see until about 160deg horizontally. Even at 180deg the screen doesnt completely black out, but if it is a white screen(word docs...) you can see the words..

When you move up/down vertically the screen does tend to go black/lose clarity pretty quickly..
