I have tried to use combofix and other software to rid this laptop of the virus but I can't seem to do that. It is not recongnizing the CD/DVD ROM so I can't use the Recovery Disc. It won't let me use a command prompt. Can someone help me? If I could get it to let me do a clean sweep maybe I can run the software on it. I would appreciate any advise. Thanks.

If you still have the original "Recovery Partition" in place press F11 during BOOT. This will provide you the option to recovery the system to its original delivery configuration without the Recovery Disks. If you no longer have the partition available, borrow a Windows installation disk (XP or Vista ?) and reinstall the OS from scratch (i.e. BOOT from the OS install disk). Re-register the OS using the software key on the underside of the notebook.

If you can't do any of the above, remove the drive and put it in an external enclosure. Format the drive and then return it to the notebook and do a clean install.

    Hope that helps

If that doesn't work, take your hard drive out and plug it into another computer as a slave drive. You can then backup any files that you want and reformat the drive to get rid of the virus. Be VERY careful not to copy any infected files to the other computer though!

You can purchase a sata to usb adapter from most retailers. They generally cost $20 - $50.
