Vista will probably start appearing pre-installed on notebooks in February (although I believe Vista is releasing in January). I would guess that it would take a few weeks to a month after you redeem the upgrade coupon to receive your copy of Vista.

I believe HP and some other manufacturers are trying to have Vista systems available for purchase on January 30 (on the web), to coincide with Microsoft's release date. They will likely not be in stores till middle/late February, though.

Assuming you've already filled out the form for the Vista upgrade, expect them to ship at the end of February/early March. HP may stagger the shipments of these somewhat, though, to avoid a huge backlog of tech support calls at their call centers.

Will the laptop manufacturers be offering new product lines or more powerful hardware, or will they be the same systems that are available today, but with Vista installed?

I just got my coupon book from Costco. There are some desktop/laptop deals starting in February where it advertises Vista being installed.
