I would like to start a thread for anyone's experiences with trying Vista using either the new Compaq v3000 or the HP dv2000. I really want to try it, but seeing as how the Vista upgrader reported like 5 drivers missing I'm not sure it'd be worth it. I have a v3000z for reference.

Has anyone tried? I'm especially interested in anyone using 64bit vista (turion x2 here). What worked, what didn't? Find drivers that made it work after all?

Yeah the ATI integrated X200 will handle all features of Vista. The Intel GMA 900 can also handle vista but not the Aero Glass or wateva it's called feature.

Windows Vista Aeroglass is compatible with DV2000T(GMA950).

    The followings are required specs for the Aero Glass;
DirectX 9 class graphics processor that:
    Supports a WDDM Driver.
Supports Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware.
    Supports 32 bits per pixel.
    Adequate graphics memory.
64 MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor less than 1,310,720 pixels
128 MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolutions from 1,310,720 to 2,304,000 pixels
256 MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolutions higher than 2,304,000 pixels
Meets graphics memory bandwidth requirements, as assessed by Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor running on Windows XP

    And GMA950 supports DirectX9 / Pixel Shader 2.0 / 128MB (DV2000t). :) :p :)

Did either of you get sound to work under Vista? That seems to be the only really difficult driver (or is in 64bit world)? Anyone get sound to work under vista?

On the V3000z with 64 bit Vista, drivers are the major problem. Couldnt find drivers for the wifi or the graphics card. So Aero didnt work. I also had problems getting the ethernet to work.

With 32 bit again there were no drivers available for the wifi or the graphics card, but since I had the Windows XP drivers handy I could get both of them to work. Aero as ever with MS brillant idea's works only with WDDM certified drivers, so that didnt work either.

Sound wasnt a problem in either versions.
Hopefully by the time Vista gets released these issues get resolved.

You should definitely try to find Vista x64 Build 5456, which is a bit newer than the public Beta 2 though it still uses your Beta 2 license key. Sound worked on my 6150/430 chipset desktop with that so perhaps it'll work with the dv2000z? nVidia updated their Vista x64 platform drivers recently, they're due for an update to their GPU drivers but I got them to work on my desktop. nVidia tends to be better than ATI in software so for now the dv2000z/V3000z should be more Vista-friendly than the L2000/V2000z series (in theory at least).

The official nvidia drivers do not install due to the GPU being identified as the mobile version. I tried using the modded inf's but since they are only for Win XP they recognise it as being non XP and so dont install. I also tried manually installing it through Device manager and it was a no go as well. The only way I could install the XP drivers(in 32 bit) was by updating the drivers through device manager.

The only way I could think to install the original Nvidia Vista driver would be by using a modded inf specifically for Visat and that I havet found one yet.
