Burned the recovery DVDs from my new V3000z that came with Vista Home Basic, and got this message during the restore:

    <<
    Error:
This PC is not supported by the recovery discs.
You will not be able to continue to recover this system from these discs
    >>

HP support said they will send me a set of disks but stop short of confirming there's a problem with the recovery disks creation process.

Anyone else tried to recover Vista (any flavors) from self created disks?

Yikes! That's a problem. Looks like you are better off waiting for the real deal to arrive by mail, rather than taking a chance with faulty DIY recovery CDs. At least Vista was kind enough to let you know it was unable to continue ~
