    Hello Everyone,

I have a brand new HP dv9000 with an AMD processor. Vista is crashing several times a day with the blue screen, is anyone else experiencing this? If so what have you done to fix it?

    Thanks!

Did you change any settings? Also is this a factory install or did you clean install when you got it home? Also, try to get the BSOD error message(s) and post on here.

Update your drivers and see if it helps...although it makes little sense to me since it's brand new, meaning everything should be fine.

Thanks, this a factory install. I will try to get the blue screen error message next time it happens. I didn't change any settings, all I did was install my Verizo Wireless card software, MS Office 2007 Pro, and Adobe Photoshop. This OS is so unstable!

hmmmm...do you have the nVidia graphics chip? If so try reinstalling the driver, it might be that. Other than that, the only thing I see in that list that might not be compatible is the Adobe software, they've been a tad slow with "official" vista compatibility. Idk about the Verizon card.

Yes I do have the Nvidia Graphics card, is that the drive I should attempt to update?

Yes, try deleting the current driver then reinstalling from HP's website or your SWSetup folder. It might not solve the problem but the only times I've gotten BSOD on Vista is with nVidia drivers (usually the not WHQLed ones).

Hey guys...I just installed the updated and installed the latest Nvidia video drivers from HP's site. I will keep you posted.

Thanks to everyone for your input!

Well, it just crashed 3 more times on me with no reason in the blue screen error message.

I guess I will have to call HP!

I'd bet on the Verizon card drivers being the problem. See if you can get any help from the Verizon data card forum here:

You should run MemTest86+, preferably overnight, just in case you have bad RAM. It happens, and it'll drive you crazy until it's diagnosed.

Thanks...I just got off of the phone with HP support and they told me to adjust the paging file size. I switched it from Automatic to custom with 1024 as the minimum and 4000 as the maximum. The rep told me that it was my Adobe Photoshop causing the problem.

I will run the mem test that you suggested.

Hmm, that's interesting. How much RAM do you have? As bloated as Vista and Photoshop are I'd want 2GB RAM for sure. If you have less than that then I can see where that could be a problem, order a pair of these.
