I just got home pro but now having second thoughts about selling it and getting ultimate instead. The only feature that I really would like form the ultimate that is not in home pro is the hardware malfunction detection/prevention

I could care less for all the encrypting or remote networking benefits

Has anyone had to make the same tough choice? What did you do?

I'm having the same trouble. I get the free Home Premium upgrade but i'm thinking about just keeping Home Premium. The one thing i'd want from Ultimate is the dreamscene because I find that cool.

I haven't used the hardware malfunction detection/prevention - but if hardware is going to fail, its going to fail and the OS can't do anything to prevent that but let you know it is going to fail so you can backup data. You will notice problems with your PC if your hardware is failing as well - so the decision is up to you. I would buy Ultimate if you are going to utilize Media Center and the image recovery is nice. I would say it is worth the 100 to do the upgrade.

It lets you have videos as your wallpaper instead of a still image.

It is worth it to upgrade for the image recovery alone

That sounds like a massive waste of memory.
