Hi...finishing up the clean install of vista on my dv9700t. Will I need the following driver/software?

    (Listed on HP's website)

HP Update and HP Software Update - Critical Security Update 1.00 C

Essential System Updates for Microsoft Windows Vista 2.00

    Also...

Should I go ahead and install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager from Intel's website? It doesn't list any specific supported Vista OS's, just Vista 32 and Vista 64. Unsure about this one. I'm already going to be using the latest INF Utility from Intel's website seeing as how it's quite a bit newer than the one on HP's website.

Please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks.

I don't believe you need that Intel Matrix Manager, unless you are running RAID or something.

Also, those two updates you listed are non-essential. You can run Windows Update afterwards and get the second one already taken care of and the HP Update is just a POS. Just fixes security issues on other non-essential HP software.

Thanks. Still would like to hear more than one opinion though. Not to discount yours...I very much appreciate it.

Hey, none taken. Actually, I use to be an HP notebook owner myself (DV6500t). So I kind of know which software from HP's website to install.

Yeah, skip the HP update thing. In the past I have installed the "Essential update" (it's *essential*), but I didn't notice if it also came down from Windows update. If it does that, then I'd go the WU route.

Intel Matrix Manager does some diagnostics in AHCI mode. It will show you any SMART triggers as well as the drive specs. Kind of nice to have.
