Well i had windows vista on my laptop and it got messed up. So i try to reinstall it with the disc but it wouldn't install properly. Also the recover partion is gone. So I've been using ubuntu which is okay but no programs support it. So i was wondering do i have to go out and get a new copy of vista? or should i try installing it again?

Also dose anyone know where i can find sound drivers for ubuntu for my dv9500t?

    thanks for the help...

Are you saying your recovery disc you made from the recovery partition failed?
I believe HP can sell you another restore disc.. I believe they charge a nominal fee for that. If you have access to any regular vista disc you can still use that to install vista and use the key on the bottom of your laptop and call MS to authenticate it. If you still can, use the sticky guide on this forum and copy your oem key to flash drive.. use that guide to install vista without activation. If you don't have a regular vista disc you can buy a vista anytime upgrade disc for very little..I paid 5 dollars for mine. I think you can buy them from MS.

Yea, simply buy a recovery DVD from hp for about $20. That'll do the trick.

Dont bother with the recovery dvd from HP. It takes hours to do a recovery and some even fail not to mention all the crapware hp includes

Go buy a Windows Vista anytime upgrade disk, its cheaper and more effective.
