I think HP already are. As OEM folks have had access to SP1 for some times now.

The standalone VISTA SP1 comes out tomm. As a Automatic windows update, April.

I believe, if you buy a new laptop now, it should have vista sp1 already.

Sadly that is the limit of Windows 32-bit. It is probably just reading the information from BIOS.

I'm not seeing SP1 on my Windows Update. I've read that certain computers will be blocked for a few more weeks if they have hardware with drivers that cause issues in SP1. So I guess my computer is blocked until they resolve these "driver issues"?

SP1 is available right now through Windows Update as an optional download. I just installed it on my HP desktop, but it has yet to show up for my dv6000t.

If you're not seeing SP1 right away through the Updater, you may need to update your drivers. If the Updater lists any optional updates, you should go ahead and install them. The next time you check for updates, SP1 should be there. I had to install the Nvidia driver that MS was pushing on me in order to get it to show up for my desktop.

If you can't see it yet, you may have a conflict with a driver or a piece of software. Check out this article for more information and links.

Note that the Conexant HD Audio driver on many HP laptops is one of the problematic pieces of hardware.

If all else fails, there is a standalone SP1 installer package you can download from the Microsoft Download Center right now. If I were you, I would wait until it shows up on Windows Update, though; the standalone is 400+ MB, but if you've been keeping up on your updates, the Update version is only like 60-70 MB, and is a really easy install.

I thought the same also. I had to download some other updates before it showed up in the upgrades window an hour or so after I installed the last update before sp1. It did the same on two other laptops that are in my home.

I did skip 3 updates because it was crashing my computer. I dont think the skipped updates was part of the pre-requisites for SP1 though.

ill give it another go later. I just got a windows defender update for today

SP1 showed up automatically as an update on my dv6775us notebook today. I was starting to get a bit worried during the install though as it took FOREVER to complete. I would guess about 1.5-2 hours with the screen blank for a good half hour at the end with only the hard disk light giving any indication that something was happening. I was quite relieved when the screen again showed my desktop. There never was any notification that the update was complete. I don't see any noticable difference in notebook funtion after the update.

I happen to have this driver in my dv9715NR, and I can not for the life of me find an updated version. Does anyone know of one, or has anyone installed the stand alone of SP1 on a machine that has this driver?

I can live with losing sound for a while if thats all that happens, I have 3 desktops for sound but I use my laptop for school and have all the work for 2 course final projects saved on it... Not sure if I can muster the fortitude to try it.

cartmage please see the link provided previously, just be sure to choose x64 for any Vista 64 version and x86 for 32bit versions.

I had to manually grap the file too, even after updating all drivers suggested via Windows Update and never seeing the SP1 option. Have to say that all went good so far, in fact now the system reports the complete 4GB instead of 3GB before (System is DV9260nr).

NOTE: Please use this link and select the appropriate download (x64 or x86): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/bb738089.aspx

Just updated my Conexant HD Audio driver to 4.26 using device manager, but according the Microsoft Article I need a version newer (newer than 4.32?)

    Anyone have any ideas?

Install the Conexant HD Audio driver from hp.com to overwrite the broken one that Microsoft sent you. Worked on my dv9000z series notebook.

It's not broken, it's just not new enough to install SP1 with.

The driver on the HP website is dated 2006

I've had this same problem. My Hp is a dv9608ca.
The conexant drivers on the hp website (at least for me) are version 4.31.0.50

Microsoft says you need at least 4.32 or higher to work with sp1.
Last Thursday, the 13th, Windows update showed a driver update for this. At that time I just decided to hide it because my computer was fine without it.
Then I saw this issue with sp1, so I installed the update, and it turns out to be version 4.36.7.60 (So check windows update for any updates you may have hidden)

The only problem is, windows update has not shown sp1 yet, even though I have all updates installed (no hidden updates) plus I do not have any driver issues anymore with the ones that Microsoft listed.

    (hope this long post helps)

it seems strange: in this forum, as well as the Windows OS forum, some people say they can just hide the optional updates and then they get sp1.
Others say that they have to install all available updates before it does anything.

Others say you have to go to the update section on the Microsoft webpage before you see it. Others say you have to check updates a certain number of times before it shows, and some people say that you have to wait at least an hour before it shows.

Well, I have done all of these things (it's been over an hour since I installed the last optional update) and I still don't see it.

If I don't see it by this afternoon/evening, then I am just going to install the stand alone file.

I installed all optional drivers, ran a search in update multiple times - never came up. BY THE WAY, it might just be the 2700 series of laptops, but there is a new BIOS version that is CRITICAL, because when people install SP1, the computer sometimes "hangs" - it's the SP1 compatible BIOS (think it's F.16). AS AN ADDED BONUS, it quiets down the fan :)

Anyway, after coming across the BIOS update and trying AGAIN with Windows Update, I just gave up and installed the stand alone SP1 from the Microsoft website.

yeah, I saw that new BIOS update, version F.2A (for me)

I ran that yesterday afternoon, before I did the rest of the drivers.

jong81, any problems installing it that way? how long did it take you to install?

Isn't it possible that MS is "throttling" the release, so that they aren't having a huge hit on the servers all at once? I would think that if everyone went and tried to upgrade at the same time (within a day or so) then it would overwhelm the servers and bandwidth. So rather than opening it for everyone all at once, they are only allowing X number of people at a time download it.

I could be completely wrong though.

My guess is that it's more along the lines of we are allowing 100 (or some such number) downloads at one time, and currently there are 98 downloading, and you are requesting, so you can have it. If there are no slots available then you have to try back.

Again, all just a guess on my part.

Just did the sp1 installation.... no big changes, except that my wireless internet connection is connecting a lot faster now than with the previous version.... it inrease my boot time (from the time i press the ON button to the time i can surf the internet) by 2min 10 seconds.... this is a lot.

My download spead hasnt changed though. Did download a file from internet it took 4min 13sec to download a file of 44.2Mb size.
Tried the download after the update and it took 4min 10 sec to do it....

I downloaded SP1 from Windows Update.

Vista is still ridiculously slow. No increase or decrease in performance. It really seems like the only thing that changed is "Service Pack 1" was added to the information in control panel.

Seriously considering heading back to XP because theres no reason a reasonably decent system (2GHz C2D, 2GB of RAM, GeForce 8400M GS) should be slower than my older computers just because of the OS.

If you do not see Vista SP1 in Windows Update, please see:

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343#method5

Should answer all questions, go through all conditions and resolutions and should be able to get it to show up.
When in doubt, make sure you have no updates left (download all) and it will most likely show up (minus touchpad drivers and a few other options etc).

I have the same problem. SP1 isn't showing up in my Updates, and I think it's because of the Conexant audio driver. I have no updates available, and none hidden. I can't find it on the Conexant website. Where can I get an updated driver?

Actually, since the update, the performance index has increased to 3.0 from 2.6 The video card is the reason of the increase.
I dual boot my laptop with XP (for my son) and i use the vista for myself. As soon my son knew of the update, he installed a game that he use to play on XP and said that the games was running better on Vista NOW. He can increase the visual quality to Medium + without having the computer to lagg... Not the case with XP.
Please note that his game was playing better on XP prior the UPdate.... so i guess there is an improvement somewhere on SP1 increasing the speed.
My wireless internet connection is working better also.

Well, I'm comparing it to XP on the same machine ;) Vista is noticeably slower than XP on the same machine.

It's not "slow", but its nowhere near as fast as XP is. Thats what bothers me. When XP came out, it ran faster than Win98SE did on the same system. But Vista runs significantly slower. At the very least it should run the same.

I do want to go back to XP. But I can't because my DVD drive can't read discs and I'm waiting for my HP case manager to call me back :\

you know...you can run vista just like xp...with out all the flashy windows and areo glass stuff and it will run allot faster. vista is a heavier graphics based setup when you fist get it. disable all that stuff and it runs just like xp did

My dv9000z boots very slow now with SP1. It runs great after it finally boots but it takes about 4 minutes. It used to boot in 1 minute. I have it set to watch the boot sequence and all the Windows system files load very slowly compared to the way they used to. The list of files used to fly by but now it crawls one buy one. Other than that it is fine. I wonder if Bios update for this model is in the future.

The Hermosa drivers dont work. The .inf is only designed for 32bit and when you try installing using the .exe it wont find the soundcard at all. Anyone else have more recent drivers than 4.19.0?
