I just did a HP Help and Support Windows Update Check.
It now shows Vista Service Pack 1 in the Windows update list as of Fevruary 13 2008. It wasn't there yesterday Feb 14 but it's there today Feb 15th???
Could this be another Microsoft Mistake or should I still wait until the Middle of march before downloading it?

-
I don't see it. Hmmmmm.
-
-
No SP1 for me
-
There were a few files released yesterday which were update prep files and had Vista SP1 stamped all over them...this is probably what he is seeing.
See attachments..Attached Files:

How much does SP1 help Vista? Is it worth giving up XP SP2 for yet?
-
nothing here
-
-
-
XP worth giving up for Vista Release? Now I can only take your words with a grain of salt.
-
-
EDIT:
@ Hahutzy, next time use words wisely. There are those among us who seem quiet but are not in their true nature, with words.
And I do believe in my humblest opinion that Vista, other than the eye-candy is way better than XP. It is more secure (sure that extra security of UAC can get annoying), faster(atleast in booting), and nicer to use. People think they're being 1337 by supporting XP. Well, you're not. -
It's Sp1. I just installed it. It said Sp1 all over the place.
Where does Windows Vista store the downloads?
It now says SP1 in the Vista Display Window.
See attachment.
It also lists it now in the update history log.
See atachment.
Could this be because I went to windows update?though the HP Bios and software Update window. Rather then going directly though windows update that I did yesterday when it wasn't there? -
is there any such update manager for dell?
-
Nope. This is the real thing. See my previous post with the attachments.
Where does windows Vista store the downloaded update. I'd like to put it on a DVD for storage if I can even do that? -
Another intereting thing is. I just went back to windows update. All the lanquage updates are now gone. I think I remeber reading that this would happen after installing Sp1
-
So is there any way to check whether SP1 is actually on your system or not ? I remember installing SP1 RC1 and then uninstalling when I had problems with it, but I couldn't find any mention of it anywhere being installed when it was installed.
-
I'm going to see now if it fixes the slowwww network file transfer problem.
MS told the world this would be fixed in SP1. -
Well, is it running any better? Not that you could get your computer to run any better considering it's obviously already superfine. -
-
-
Linux = 1337 -
It use to take 15 minutes to transfer a 50 MB file and sometimes it would stop.
I just transfered the same file in 20 seconds.
SP1 is worth it. Just for this fix.
But somthing seems to have happend to my Wireles Pre-N. It use to be solid 130MBS. Before I did the update. I checked it and was 130MBS now it's only 58. I hope it's as they say, "Band conditions" and SP1 didn't change some option in the network card driver.
But once again file transfers are back to normal. -
Yes I like Linux. Honestly I do. I really like what's good. And in the same respect Vista is better than XP.
I like linux quite a lot actually. Well my web server was linux based only. But I just don't like how certain extremely pro-linux users can pwn the noobs in forums sometimes like in Ubuntu forums. Sure Ubuntu is great but not neccesserily the community. I was given the advice of typing "init 6" in the console for some random problem.Things are good for what they are and narrow minded people need to look further
(no reference to anyone, just a general statement).
-
No one answered me ... so it just improves file transfer rates? I mean, that's cool, because you're totally right ... XP never took this much time for file transfers unless it was over my network.
-
Fusion WOL now turns on my 2 media servers and provides status and no longer locks up. Very cool. I use to have to send the magic packet by typing it in everytime. Something must have changed in the way SP1 handles network packets.
Wireless Network is now back to 130MBS. Someone must have been using a wireless phone or Microwave overn. Hee Hee.
Also I was able to play 2 Videos WMV and Divx off the servers without anything being choppy like they were before SP1.
It looks to me MS did lots of work on the network.
It's now a joy to use my network once again with Vista.
With the exception of the virtual desktop. It's still very slow no matter what you tweak.
Woops. HP's Quickplay. Still locks up the machine when I try to record TV shows and WEBCam Video.
Must be a bug in QP or the hardware. So SP1 did not fix that problem.
Hope HP calls me back with a fix soon. Like to buy a couple of smaller Vista notebooks now. But wife says no until this PC is workikng correctly.
Ouch!!!!! -
On my PC I can now have UAC turned on without causing that longgggg 5 minute boot time. With SP1 installed.
-
The thing I've noticed a lot about Vista is that there are always different issues everybody is experiencing, there isn't one major problem. -
Yes the UAC problem has been happening to lots of people. I think HP has a service bulletins about a black screen showing up after the welcome screen staying there for a few minutes before the desktop shows up.
I saw a video a while ago. "The Dragon Open Box Demo" After he turns on the dragon and gets past the welcome screen. It just went black. If you watch the guys face. You just knew he wanted ro say something about it. -
Prasad007, I meant no offense. It's just that Vista's gave me countless hours of headaches due to incompatibilities with my university's programs, and I had no problems after switching back to XP.
As you said, Vista is the future, but for the time being, I'll be sticking with XP until most issues are worked out.
People think they're being 1337 by supporting XP. Well, you're not.
I know they do, and it's funny that you switched to "you're not", because ironically, I don't stick with XP for fanboyism. -
-
I had googled and found one other person with the same problem. I emailed him. He kind enough to tell me. His solution was to return the computer to HP for his money back before the 21 days.
Yes, Even had HP support try and fix with their remote support.
No luck. -
There are quite a few reviews of SP1 on the net. No sense in listening to specualtion. Go read something by people who have tested it. Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal has a good summary this week. The file transfer speed improvement is the big thing. You may actually experience slow boot times after your first update but it will get faster over time.
-
And it's nice to know you're not one of them Anti-Vista, pro-XP fanbois.
I'm the kind of person who likes things that truly ARE genuine good! I doubt you would find a person who loves both Vista AND Linux, considering Linux savvy people show hatred towards windows, not all, but certainly most.
P.S. I'd rep+ ya now, but I've rep+'ed a lot in the past 24 hours, and am not allowed to do it anymore
Take care buddy. -
Look in the sigs of a lot of members around here, and you'll find Vista and Gutsy side by side. -
I Don't have the option for SP1 in windows update or HP update?
-
, I just tried the init 6 in terminal, jeez, you could've said it reboots your system. *n00b linux user here.*.
-
This is really strange. My sister and couple of guys at work also told me. SP1 did not show up on their Vista Windows Update page.
Strange. I wonder if MS only had it up their for a couple of hours and then took it down????
Maybe the Robots at Microsoft were programmed to put it there at a certain time and day. But then people cought the mistake and had it removed.
It was very strange that the date on the SP1 update was Feb 13th. But didn't show up until the 15th.
I'm glad I always check the updates on my lunch break. Otherwise I would not have gotton the download.
Has anyone that has checked for the SP1 update using the Vista 64 Bit version.
All the people I know only have the 32 bit version of Vista. I wonder if that could be the reason why it's not showing up in the list??
Or certain other updates need to be installed before the SP1 update shows up.
I know many people do not like to install updates including friends of mine.
Bye-the-way. Vista is now working great. Fast Boots, Fast Shutdowns and great network file transfer and media playback speeds.
This is the way it should have been working the 1st day it was released.
Then maybe it would not have gotton so many bad comments.
I can't understand how Microsoft with all their people working on this thing could have let that network bug get though QA??? Crazy. -
Maybe microsoft is slowly releasing it to different consumer groups or regions so their servers don't get ****d by everyone trying to upgrade the ugly monster that is vista.
-
You know, You could be right. Didn't they do something like this with XP? -
Hell, atleast I have company
-
LoL. I'm lucky I didn't have anything really important up, otherwise I would've been pissed. anyway I'm sure I'm not the only one that tried that, makes it a little more comforting. btw what does "init 6" mean?
Vista Service Pack 1 now in Windows Update.
