Has anyone got Vista Ultimate 64 bit. HP offers only 64 bit version of Ultimate. I would like to know about software compatibilty, whether you need to buy a separate version of every software for 64 bit, or can it run 32 bit softwares. Other brands do offer Ultimate 32 bit.

you cant run 32 bit software on a 64 bit system nobody really uses 64bit operating system yet due to lack of drivers and software

This is completely false. 64bit Vista can run 32bit programs, it just cannot run ancient 16bit programs. Drivers are not quite optimized yet, but they are improving...and I would suggest that you search for all your peripheral equipment drivers and see if there are 64bit variants. A 64bit Vista cannot use 32bit drivers.

So is it better to go with 32 bit version of OS. Are there any advantages of 64 bit version over 32 bit, like speed, more stable.

I for one have been running Vista Home Premium 64 bit on my dv9000t for 2 months.

I have no driver issues nor software errors. HP seem to be on the ball with thier device driver support for Vista 64, even on XP shipped models.

I for one am very happy with x64. I even have signed drivers for the nVidia Geforce Go 7600 with the full control panel options - something HP hasn't offered yet with their driver releases.

Oh yeah, BTW my laptop came with XP MCE 2005, since then it has had Vista Home Premium (Express Upgrade) and now the 64 bit version installed using the Express upgrade key.

I too use Vx64 and it runs fine with 32bit progs. It hasn't failed me yet. More and more programs, though not faster than I'd like are coming out.

I also am using Vista Ultimate 64bit actually I have been using it since it's first release. On my preveious notebook and now my HP dv9208nr. I runs really good actually. The only annoying thing is the High Security of asking you several times before letting a program run, but you can turn off. I've gotten so used to it............lol like my wife asking me the same confirmation on the same question........." Are You Sure"......lol

So, from what you are saying, I think I should be able to run my current 32 bit MS Office and other software on 64 bit OS. Also, does 64 bit OS any other advantage over 32 bit OS. I heard that its spposed to be faster, but I was concerned about driver and software incompatibility issues

64bit right now is good if you have more than 3.5GB of RAM. Other than that there's really no advantage to it that outweighs the drawbacks. I'm running 64 bit, but only because I have 4GB RAM. I have found some things that don't work, but so far they are only small annoyances; nothing that's a show-stopper.

Windows Vista Ultimate retail box comes with both x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit) DVDs. So you have the option of installing either (but not both).

I think HP sells it only as 64bit, but you can get it 64 bit too.
