Well it seems that the the sound doesn't mute when pressing the mute button on the volume control on the volume taskbar icon (or by activating it with the quicklaunch mute button). sound still plays from the notebook speakers regardless of being in muted mode.

running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, all drivers are from windows update with the exception of the GeForce Go 7200 graphics drivers. no hp drivers installed.

anyone else have the same problem? any idea what the problem is?

Yeah, you need proper sound card drivers. They don't exist yet. You also likely won't have sound when the notebook "wakes up" from sleep mode, your microphone doesn't work, and using headphones doesn't mute the system speaker.

Some people using 32-bit Vista are using the HP XP drivers for the sound card, though this presents some issues. I've sent a couple of emails to HP's drvier team asking for proper Vista drivers for the dv2000t (the ones on their website are for the wrong sound codec) but haven't heard back yet.

Also, since you haven't installed HP drivers, your webcam shouldn't work, and some of your card readers likely don't work -- also, you'll need to get the new Quiclaunch button driver from them.

Same thing happens when you connect to the port replicator (xb3000). I tried everything and from what I can see you get individual controls for sound not like the old Wave, CD, Midi, etc. So. if you have a program open, for example Napster you can also individually control that (click on the speaker icon then mixer). So since the sound driver is probably not functioning right the universal control over any sound out device is not working out. If I mess with my speakers I sometimes I lose the ability to hear anything but Windows sounds. You have no choice when it comes to headphones but if you want to mute something you may have to go to Mixer and mute it from there. *sigh* I hate my life... I kinda give up since every once in while going from standby seems to take out my sound card's ability to work (or my sound card's ability to control the speakers, whatever). I am just disabling it until I get the real drivers from the computer (course sometimes it re-enables it self so it's a no win situation).

*sigh* this upgrade was more painful than from Me to XP. My stupid video card also has issues when I connect to my port replicator and it thinks I'm using my LCD instead of my Laptop display. That's my second biggest gripe among others...

I had exactly the same problem on the dv2000 with Windows Vista Business and have now gone back to XP MCE.

I think this is far from acceptable on the part of HP, that is selling "Vista Ready" laptops which clearly are not "Vista Ready".

I have a nasty feeling I'll be buying a new laptop in six months just to run Vista, which is exactly what HP and Bill would love.

I have an opposite problem. I am having a HP 6602AU laptop and it came with Vista. I installed XP over it. Thanks to dave I got it running. But now the only problem I am facing is that the mute doesn't work. When the headphone is plugged in the speakers still work. Anybody having any ideas ?
