I've got a new HP Pavilion dv6899ei notebook with Vista pre-installed.

I need to install XP on it, but discovered that the 'Disable SATA Native' option is not there in the BIOS settings.

I need help on solving this pls.

    Thanks.

why is there a driver for Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family Video Driver
since my machine has NVIDIA GeForce Series Video Driver in the case of Vista?

Yeah, the sticky is there is to help...
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=165319

Basically you need to slipstream SATA drivers onto the XP installation or use a external floppy drive and load the SATA drivers during the installation. Do the nlite slipstream it should beeasier and you might even be able to slipstream service packs and drivers to make the installation process much easier.

Your dv68xx series should be almost identical to the dv65xx. So, the drivers included in the sticky should work for you as well. Otherwise, the SATA drivers can also be downloaded from Intels website...
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2800&lang=eng

I would recommend slipstreaming SP3, graphics, wlan drivers plus pretty much anything which will slipstream.

Probably just SP3 and the SATA driver. The rest can be easily installed later on.

I want XP to carry the C: drive letter assingment and Vista the other e.g. D:will changing the drive letter assignements in Disk management work?

and is this the right video driver for my video card?
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html

I noticed it is GeForce 8400 GS not 8400M as on my machine.

Yes, you might need to extract the files out of the exe however. Any zip extractor(7 zip for example) should be capable of extracting the files from the executable. Dont install the XP drivers in Vista.

You already have Vista installed? Then you will have to use vista boot pro or similar app to restore your Vista boot manager. Otherwise you will only boot into XP after the installation. As far as drives are concerned I believe Vista takes precedence and install XP on the second partition. Dont worry about the driver letters.

Get the drivers from laptopvideo2go forums and use the modded inf to install the drivers. Nvidia by default does not provide driver support for mobile GPU's. You can however use the modded inf and install the driver.

get the drivers from the lv2go forums...
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showforum=88

Just look around the forums and try the newer ones and see if it is stable.

The modded inf's are also included in the forums and all you need to do is replace the existing inf with the modded version which will alllow you to install the driver. They have a nice guide detailing the install process...
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showforum=88

All you need to do is:
    1. Downlod the driver
    2. Download the modded inf
    3. Extract the driver
    4. Replace the stock inf with the modded inf (copy & paste)
    5. Start the installation process either using the have disk method as explained in the link above or by double clicking the setup.exe in the driver folder.

Nvidia drivers are universal which means any of those work for any nvidia GPU. Ofcourse stick with the newer 17x.xx versions and you should be generally fine. In any case the guys at lv2go do the modding for. All you need to do is download the modded inf and replace the original inf. Its pretty easy and not as daunting as it appears.

I will recommend you the 169.09 drivers, its one of the best drivers ive used.

Download this and unzip these drivers somewhere.

Then download the modded .inf file and place it in the folder where you unzipped the drivers above. Overwrite the old .inf

    Thanks Flipfire.

but isn't there a utility from HP that provides power management, like in vista, instead of using Power options applet in Windows XP?
