Well boys, after installing another fresh copy of Vista Ultimate 32bit, and installing each update and driver one by one, I figured out what was causing my Startup issue in Vista.

For those wondering, "what the heck is he talking about"

    Let me elaborate then...

When I first installed Vista, when it loads the desktop, the screen flashes immediately for half a second, then my system tray icons load simultaneously, and I'm good to go starting the operating system.

Well after I installed all my drivers and Windows Updates, I noticed this wasn't happening anymore.

Now what's happening is when Vista boots up and loads the desktop, the screen does not flash anymore, and my system tray icons load up immediately HOWEVER, there's a red X on my wireless (yet it still works) BUT the main problem is my Vista is in a way is not "completely ready" to be used.

Then 15-20 secs later, the screen flashes, my wireless network icon shows I'm good, memory management stats caching, and I can finally start using the computer.

This is not just a problem with me, I'm almost 99% sure it's a known problem with Conextant High Audio driver and Vista.

I've held off on installing the Conextant driver until a new driver is out or I can think of another solution.

Hope this helps someone who's experienced the same problem. :)

Yeah I have noticed the same thing happening with mine. It seems like its ready but the wireless hasnt connected yet and the screen flashes again later. I never knew what it was but its slightly annoying that it appears all is good but its not. However I like having sound so I think ill keep it and deal with the minor annoyance. Which driver did you load? the HP one or the M$ one?

    I have the DV6000T

Yeah, well the wireless will actually work(although it has the red X)

But the operating system is not ready to use, which just bugs the heck out of me.

I know what you mean, but my sound has been working just fine without the Conextant driver.

I've tried the MS one through Windows Update, I guess I could try the HP one, but I'm almost positive I'd get the same result.

I have the HP one atm so if youre using the M$ one then yeah same result. Did it still do it if you uninstalled the sound drivers? My wireless sadly performs worse now. It says my signal strength is less than what it was before in XP. Although this could be something wrong with the OS too as I know the volume reporting isnt correct between looking at the task bar and looking in properties. Wonder if there is a place to bug it.

Nope, once I uninstalled the Conextant High Definition audio and the Conextant Modem drivers, it went back to normal. I bet this bug affects other stuff but just the startup issue is the most noticable.

Don't worry about the Wireless and the signal bar, mine is always on 3 out of 5, and my buddy's Vista is always on 3 as well and his router is in the same room. Anyways, my wireless is just fine and it's just as fast as XP in my opinion.

If you only uninstalled the drivers and the sound is working it had to reload something in its place. Is it still doing the same thing it was before?

Well, when I installed Vista, it already had built in Conextant drivers.

Windows Update just had the updated drivers from Conextant.

So when I uninstalled the Sound and Modem drivers, my sound wasn't working.

But when you restart your computer, it loads the Vista native Sound and Modem drivers, which are just fine and the new drivers from Microsoft/HP are not necessary.

Now if it was the decision between not having any sound or Avoiding this startup issue, of course I'd go with the sound.

But the sound is just fine right now and I rather avoid that start up issue just because it annoys the crap out of me. :)

Yeah, try it, see how it works for you.

    1. Uninstall Conextant Sound and Modem drivers from Add/Remove
    2. Reboot computer
    3. Vista will install the native Conextant sound and modem drivers.
    4. Start up issue should be fixed

Let me know if it works for you

Well you are correct. I uninstalled the conexant drivers and let M$ drivers install and it does seem to be a bit faster as for getting things ready. Funny though seems the HD light shows activity for a while even after boot up is complete. Always makes me wonder whats going on in there when the light is going at it but Im not doing anything lol. Either way it boots better now and no "lag". I also installed Symantec AV CE 10.2 woot now I can go places Im not suppose to anymore lol

Yeah I didnt uninstall the modem driver just the audio. Dont get me wrong the sound itself has lost some quality by going to 64bit vista and by uninstalling the amber led doesnt show when muted but it does fix the lag for sure.

Np. Now if only the amber led worked and such it would be good. Well actually if HP and Conexant got off their ever loving rears and got to work to make these things perfect it would be good lol. Guess we have to suffer til then.

Sure, no problem. I hated that lag also, everytime I booted up my computer, I had to just sit and wait 20 seconds before I could really get going, which was very annoying. I didn't get a blue screen, but don't worry about it, I'm sure everything's fine.

Yeah, seriously. I noticed the amber light thing too, oh well, hopefully there is a fix soon.

I don't have a machine with your exact hardware, but the latest Conexant HD Audio Driver I linked to in the Vista Driver thread (linked as #4) is an updated driver that supposedly fixes a number of problems (according to HP's .cva file). I'm not sure exactly what systems it applies to, but it may be worth checking out for you guys having this problem.

Cant install that one. So guess on that note Im screwed lol. Would be nice if they put out some nice updated drivers for everthing. Ive heard Nvidia is probably getting hit with a class action suite for claiming Vista ready and their not even close lol

I don't understand why that is happening because the first time you booted up in Vista (assuming it was a fresh installation not HP) it has those native Conextant drivers built in. So if it wasn't giving you the BSOD then, it shouldn't now.

What I suggest is if you WANT and have some extra time on your hands, back up everything, or make another partition, and install a fresh copy of Vista, now knowing everything you know now with drivers, install everything, then IMAGE your harddrive with Image for Windows: http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image.html

So basically get your operating exactly how you want it,, then image it, so if anything ever goes wrong in the future, you got a nice image backup that you can restore and it would put everything back working correctly.

Other than that, I don't know how to fix your blue screen.

HP fan -- I can't recreate your problem on my system, so I don't know exactly what to tell you. Have you tried doing a driver rollback to the generic Microsoft driver instead of uninstalling the HD Audio device in device manager. Otherwise, it sounds like time for a fresh Vista install.
