Does anyone know if there is a problem with Hp dv9220us laptops and the internal webcam with Windows Vista? I am using the latest drivers on HP's website. I have tried older drivers and I still have problems. My webcam sometimes works. After using either paltalk, windows live messenger or yahoo messenger, when I restart the program, I get an error message saying the webcam isn't connected, even though it is showing no problems in the device manager. It doesn't always do this. Mostly if I reboot the computer It starts working again, but not always. Sometimes I have to reinstall the drivers to get the webcam to work.
Does anyone think that I have a defective webcam and I should get the computer repaired, or does it sound more like a windows Vista driver problem?
I want to know if it is just my computer or if a lot of other people are having the same problem?

Do a search, you will see lots of reported problems with the web cam and Vista across the notbook range. The current Vista web cam driver is crap!

I've just had a call from HP tech support. They want to take my notebook for further investigation of the web cam problems (XP, Vista, BIOS level effects web cam operation etc). A courier will be here to collect in the next couple of days and they say it will take them about 10 days to investigate / fix.
This shoud be interesting....I will report back! -
Thanks Ratty, I will wait to see your outcome before I get mine fixed.

I am having the same problem with my built in web cam, but I have a Gateway laptop. Can some one please help us? I can not find help on this issue any where! I need my cam to work for a class I have, so help ASAP is greatly appreciated!

Nikii,
Check the device manager under imaging devices and view the properties of your webcam. See if the manufacturer of your webcam is Chicony. If your webcam is manufactured by Chicony, then there is a fix using the Acer crystal eye webcam drivers. I don't know if Gateway is using those webcams in their laptops. My HP has the Chicony webcam and that driver fixed my problem. If your webcam is manufactured by Chicony follow this post to resolve you webcam problem.

If the acer driver fix doesn't work for you and or your webcam recording option locks up your computer.
Give this a try. It worked for me.

Stll working for me after about 10 plus recodings and a couple of days worth of AIM video chats. I did not have to install the ACER drivers for some reason.
