    Hi everyone.

My laptop is a Compaq Presario x1010ca that I bought in 2001. I would like to know if its possible to install vista on it. This model is not listed as a vista supported products on the Compaq page, but I'd like to know if anyone ever tried it before.

Also, would it be better to install Windows 7 rather than vista.

    Thank you for your help!

When you say yes, do you mean it because windows 7 is better than vista in general or because I will get less compatibility issues?

Anyone knows what happens when installing vista on an unsupported laptop?

There's nothing wrong. Vista will work fine with your laptop, but check that you have sufficient RAM (1.5 - 2GB) to run Vista efficiently. The x1010 supports up to 2GB of RAM. Aero will not be supported on the ATI 9200 card in your laptop. Installing Windows 7 will not help much either.
