You are funny, you had to go to some extremely odd setup to make your point about how great XP is for you. How many normal users would do this type of thing with 2 monitors? What people need are real world experiences not some half baked crazy people that invent the strangest way to crash an OS, just so they can whine about Vista. Dude shut the hell up if you cant give a real reason for problems with Vista, and find something better to do with your time.

That's because everybody here is smarter than you. Dee Dee Dee! I hope I was clear enough for your simple mind.

    Have a nice day! :)

My OS knows the OS better than I know the OS, and I've been using it for a year. Vista is a good operating system, but folks who distrust it from the start will never learn how good it is.

I love it when people post about Vista and compatibility problems, now explain to me, is this Vista's fault or yours for not researching first to see if your devices and programs were compatible? This is to the people who have switched in general, not just you because I have worked on systems supposedly messed up by Vista when the actual problem was the person sitting in front of the keyboard but heck, it's so much easier to simply blame Microsoft.

As for UAC pop ups I’ve had Vista since Beta 1 and have not been riddled with UAC pop ups, when installing new software yes, when doing something that requires admin privilege yes, otherwise I never get bothered with UAC pop ups.

The PC MAC commercials couldn’t be more wrong if they tried but people who don’t know much fall for them hook line and sinker. We could very easily do the opposite commercials and have a field day but for some reason Microsoft and the powers that be on the PC side choose not to lower themselves to the childish meanderings of a company with 3% of the market. Kinda like being barked at by a 3 lb dog, makes a lot of noise but in the end it’s just a 3lb dog making noise.

Remember the Apple commercials touting the MAC as the fastest PC on the planet? Yeah, right after that they switched to Intel, why, because Apple was getting their collective asses handed to them unless running OSX native applications.

Ask any IT person who has to support MAC’s how awesome the MAC is, unless he’s a blind fanboy you’ll get some very interesting stories. Same goes for Windows of course, I’m not claiming it’s perfect, but it is MUCH better than the people who buy a Vista system, install old garbage on it then blame Vista for their utter lack of researching before buying claim.

XP performs quickly on systems; this is especially true of systems lacking a fast enough CPU and memory to run Vista at the same level. This was also true back when XP came out, Win98SE ran faster than XP, a new OS always requires a more stout system than the previous OS did, if I have to explain why then you won’t understand.

Yes XP SP3 comes with a performance boost, for people with inadequate systems they can jump up and down with joy, for those of us who bought/built systems that can deliver an experience we’ve come to expect from an OS Vista is performing as designed. I even have older programs working with it that people said would never work, how, because I did my research and found out how to do it.

For each and every call I have gotten to remove Vista and install XP, I have been able to configure the system with their applications and hardware so they are happy with their purchase, for those looking to upgrade to Vista if their system is a weakling I explain why it’s a bad idea and explain it to them in details and language they understand.

I’ve said this before, the people who knock Vista, they are the same people who knocked XP when it came out and they will be the same people who knock the next Windows OS that comes out, they simply don’t do the research necessary to make the move to the next OS, they buy then install everything that was designed for the last OS or even the one prior to that and then go online and whine like a broke dick dog how the new OS sucks and the last one rocks.

The cycle repeats and we’ll go through it again.

I still want to know how one tries to connect 2 monitors to 1 laptop. VGA and SVideo ports? Most video cards don't support that, afaik.

Good points, also for those with copy performance issues SP1 helps in a big way. I myself haven't had issues with it but have seen estimates of 26,995 days for a file copy. The file copied quickly but the estimated time was amusing.

What in the world is so odd about the setup? As I sit here, three of the people sitting around me are using two monitors, with their laptops being one of the two. That's odd? OK ... How about watching high-definition content on the high-definition equipment I bought without the OS policing whether the content is "legitimate" or not? Is that odd? And the OS didn't "crash" -- if you'd read my post carefully before slinging your slobber around, you would have caught that -- it *disabled* the graphics subsystem. That's not a crash: that's the OS playing policeman.

And as far as a "real reason for problems with Vista," how about you give me a real reason for problems with XP? If you want to use Vista, go right ahead, but don't come at me blathering on about how people who don't want to "upgrade" are just like the people who didn't want to upgrade to XP, didn't want to upgrade to 98, didn't want to upgrade to 95, blah, blah, blah. No, I just think I have more in common with the people who didn't want to "upgrade" to Windows ME.

Well, you've certainly made that clear.

No -- two monitors meaning the laptop as one and a second connected: not two external monitors connected to the laptop.

OK. That's a standard config and should work no problem. To blame this on Vista itself is ridiculous. Are there any logs or information from Vista saying, "I shut down your video because I think you're pirating HD content", or are you just assuming that? It could just as easily, or more likely be the case that there's a problem in the video driver or something like that. Unless you have proof of your assertion, don't jump to conclusions.

You know what? Said co-worker is in a meeting right now, and I'm in right behind him. Later today I'll get the details and post a more detailed account. That said, however, it was Vista DRM, not a crash. I don't have "proof" of my assertion ... but neither does anyone else about anything else they're asserting here, so that shouldn't bother you too much!

EDIT: My proof will be the details of what happened, to come later.

It's the guys that complain about bunghulio marks and state that "Vista is a resource hog" that crack me up.

I think if you buy a system that was designed for Vista and dont go screwing around updating the drivers and crap you wont have any problems.

Hey, here's a test for you... Find and old 286 or 386 and try loading XP on it and report back

You're going to laugh but in 1991 I installed Windows 3.0 on a Vtech 286, you want to talk slow, holy crap! :) I also considered myself very lucky to have a co processor in my 386DX25, 16 megs of ram (back then, that was king) and I had one of the first 1meg Boca video cards our company got in. That and a 15" monitor and I was king of the geeks.

Yeah gaming has a way to go but so did XP back when it came out, I remember all sorts of benchmarking going on at Toms and Anand's sites and after a while XP took over as speed champ.

Vista has DX10 games to look forward too and when drivers come out that do the job right I'll finally be able to see Flight Sim X the way it should be seen, for now it runs on my XP box.

    Are you using WHS yet?

Well, that's the rub isn't it? I can comfortably run XP on my Pentium III at 500 MHz with 512 MB RAM. Try that with Vista. But that's not even the point: What does Vista bring to the table that XP isn't already giving me? And does that outweigh the performance hit I take with it on identical hardware? Anyone can say that a given, newer OS is going to require more/better hardware than an older OS, but so what? I'm not saying I'm never going to run Vista, just that I'm going to wait until it doesn't suck. (Just like I did with XP when it came out. I never ran XP until SP2, and even then not because I was "unhappy" with 2000.) Why should I go out and buy different hardware when the OS I'm using runs just perfectly fine on the stuff I have? Does that even make sense? As rabid as you think the anti-Vista front is, you early adopters are just as rabid. When there are some solid anti-DRM measures out there, and when Vista on its second service pack, I'll consider it.

OK, so the full story about my co-worker and Vista is this: He had some burned Blu-Ray content (not a game as I mentioned earlier) that they wanted to watch on his friend's new laptop. They attempted to attach a larger monitor to the laptop, and Vista shut down the graphics sub-system because it was "unauthorized content." They did the identical thing with the same monitor on my co-worker's XP laptop, and it was fine. Yes, it was burned Blu-Ray content. I don't care. Vista shouldn't care either. It's not up to Vista to care if I'm viewing burned Blu-Ray content. I'd be saying the same thing about XP if they tried to backfill it with DRM garbage.

I see. You're one of those who doesn't mind having the government listen in on his phone calls, or having cameras mounted on every available vertical surface recording every one of your movements because, after all, you don't do anything illegal, right?

A computer is a tool: a means to an end. I use a hammer now and then: I don't need a hammer that decides for me what I should and shouldn't nail. It's none of the hammer's business. If you can't see that, then I understand why you wouldn't care about DRM in Vista.

If I burn a movie I own for my own use then the powers that be can kiss my rear, I should be able to use it. But it has been advertised that Vista ships with DRM technology built in so it shouldn't have been a shock that Vista did what they said it would here.

    What can ya do.

No, we all do illegal things here and there and I love my privacy. It's just funny to see the people that get caught. I mean theres ways to work around ANY system that invades our privacy or piracy in your case. It's funny how earlier you mentioned that you have "played" with computers for a long time and that you know what your doing when it comes to them. Yet you can't play a burned movie on Vista. Just by that it shows how competent your are towards a computer. I think we all know that the ONLY thing that Vista played was,........you.

Oh one thing. Just because I like Vista and I think it's funny that you can't make a pirated movie play on a Vista laptop, that doesn't mean that I want illegal wire tapping and cameras everywhere. Well the cameras, only in the places where we could catch IDIOTS.

isn't it the government and courts jobs to handle copyright infringement? i agree with the privacy side of it. i'm not saying 'go out and copy a bunch of movies' i just don't want software running on my computer eating up cpu usage, no matter how small it is. i don't even want to touch the privacy issues. the cracks in that subject go so deep i don't think i could get back out.
i read an interesting article about the drm stuff. the guy makes a lot of sense. http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2007/02/drm_in_windows_1.html
now i'm all for finding better solutions to existing problems, but not when they cause EVERYONE more problems. smoking may make you feel better, but i have some pretty bad allergies. get it away from me.

i don't have enough info to really argue on this, but from what i've learned so far and what i can piece together myself, i thought i'd share my thoughts since people love this subject so much :)

Man talk about biased (the article mentioned above). Technical support issues, unstable software, under-performing, less reliable, buying new software and peripherals. I dont know but I guess that doesn't apply to me. I guess I'm just a "SHEEP" for using something that works for me, but not for others. How dare I think for myself and act on my own experiences.

Hey, you're indicting me for doing exactly that, so why should you be surprised when it happens to you? I could just as easily point that right back at you: How dare I think for myself and act on my own experiences!

If you want to use Vista, go right ahead. I'm just opposed in principle to the idea that the software I pay for has the ability to limit my activities based on what some consortium in Las Vegas has decided. Where does it end? It's a miracle that libraries and used record stores have managed to survive into this century. Hey, ever rent a movie and watch it with some friends? Did each of them pay a royalty? Ever listen to the radio in your car with friends? Do you think that's copyright infringement? Guess what: the people who are behind the kind of DRM in Vista are the same ones who think you should own one copy of a DVD for each machine that you want to watch it in, or that you shouldn't be able to make a backup copy of a movie because you haven't paid for the content on the disk, but just the physical disk itself. You want to sign up for that? Running Vista gets you a good part of the way there ...

You really need to read posts more carefully. The story I relayed happened to my *co-worker* and *his friend.* I don't run Vista on any of my machines. I can do whatever I want/need to do with any of my computers, thank you very much. (And, I might add, my co-worker has more than 30 years experience building and using computers, but was smart enough to know that one minute's worth of boottime would get him into XP and solve the problem at hand. Ever hear of Occam's Razor? Look it up. It's probably on Wikipedia.)

Also, I'm not a pirate. As a matter of fact, I'm somewhat of a "content provider" myself. But I'm a realist, and I'm not an idiot. If someone wants to steal a copy of something I've produced, they will. But guess what: If they liked it that much in the first place, they'd buy it anyway -- their stealing it shows that if they couldn't steal it, they wouldn't bother buying it anyway. In reality, it's not a "lost sale." The point is, I shouldn't have to "find a way around" all the obstacles my OS puts in the way of my doing stuff. Why would I pay money for that when it could be easily avoided all together?

XP vs Vista. Is the political equivalent of immigration in the sense that no matter how much discussion, we end up in the same place we started.
BTW as far as my last post I was referring to you talking about sales. Good day Mate. Have fun bashing an OS you think you know (just like in all of your other posts)

I never bashed XP or people that prefer it. Read again. My argument is people that are ignorant that think everybody else has to follow their way or they're just sheeple. My argument in retard is as follows: EFF ignorance not XP. I love XP and Vista. XP runs just as perfect as my Vista from home. Also, I dont mean just posts from this thread. You stay bashing something you don't know. My first post in this thread states a question on how is it possible that a workstation that is 2x as powerful in every way execute a certain program poorly compared to my laptop. Oh and I really got involved in this thread when you said you were shocked that there were people that didn't view your opinions as their own. then calling them sheeple. Damn. "Retard"? Really? Are you three? Calm down. Get a grip. Everything is going to be OK. Just keep telling yourself, "it's only the Internet, it's only the Internet."

What I am shocked about is how people don't seem to care about Microsoft bowing so completely to the demands of "content owners" and interweaving DRM into the fabric of the OS. For all your screaming and whining about my supposed "ignorance," and "EFF ignorance," the dirty little secret is that *you* you never once post a valid defense. So come on then, oh learned one, by all means, enlighten me. Please educate the uninformed with some details about how DRM isn't really integrated into Vista. What you can't seem to grasp is that I don't care whether there's a way around the DRM ... it shouldn't be there in the first place. It isn't in XP, right? If you knowingly sign up for it, that's your decision. The people who blindly "upgrade" just because it's the latest thing -- and there are people who do that, you know -- are the ones I refer to as sheeple.

It's simple: when you see my name next to a thread, just don't read it. You can handle that, right? And why are you getting so uptight about it anyway? If you disagree with me, you've made that point very clear. Why so angry?

If you get Vista as OEM, it should be solid.

The majority of the problems people encounter happen when upgrading to Vista from an earlier version of Windows.

My A8JP with a Vista upgrade was problematic. So I wiped it and went back to XP SP2.

My desktop with Vista OEM has been solid. None of the problems I had with going the upgrade route on the notebook.

Since Vista will come pre-installed, it shouldn’t be problematic.

Really? It's funny that I found your reference to me as a "retard" offensive? You have a strange sense of humor.

WOW. I really want to know where i referred to you as derrogotory name for a mentally disabled person. I mean i know I wrote something like "let me put this in "((r-word) dont want you to think i'm offending you again).....". Funny thing is you still didn't get the point.

and what I find funny is that your saying oh vista is policing users around and this and that about policing. then you go and report me to a moderator for not being able to read something. So I guess your trying to police my opinions. Talk about a 180
