Hello, I was wondering if this was normal to you guys. My vista would startup after i type in my login pw, after that some of the stuff would load, but would not actually work because everything is still loading. My internet connection would not be connected UNTIL 45+ SECS after i wait...when the screen will flash once, then the internet will finally connect... it seems like the flash is coming from the video driver being load or something?

here is what i have on startup...

    logitech setpoint
    windows defender
    sypnatics pointing device
    hp quicklaunch buttons
    NVIDIA windows 2000 compatiable display
    Microsoft windows operating system
    Rightmark Cpu Clock Utility

    PLEASE HELP!! !H+AHH

Unfortunately, welcome to Vista. The lag you mention is one of the reasons my dv9000 is now a dual-boot system. I assume your connection to network is wireless; if you switch off your wireless you should see a significant speed-up. Whats really irritating is you can't do anything else while the wireless login negotiation is proceeding. Good luck...

I am in the same boat also. I have DV2500T and still it lags. Sometimes the lag gets little over 1 min. This is the reason I switched to windows XP. But if someone has any workaround to solve this issue then it would be great.

Is the hard drive light still on when this is going on? If so, this is a typical Windows thing. They like to claim fast startup, but it really is just showing you the desktop faster. All the stuff that has to load (not all of it bloat) is still loading in the background. That causes the system to slow down until it's done starting up.

NO the hard drive light is not on. Its like computer stays ideal at that time. After 1 min or so computer starts loading everything like virus scan software, wireless connection, and all the other startup programs.

Although Vista's startup time seems much longer, the resuming from sleep is massively improved from XP, so I never power off my laptop anymore. Sleep does the trick!

Doesn't sound right. If you're up for it, I'd do a clean install and that should wipe out any delays due to bloatware/software

my new dv6500t does the same thing. i havent done the clean install as i usually let it sleep and resume most of the time anyway which seems pretty quick...just takes the wireless network to come back after resuming...

so does this mean if you do the clean install itll fix it for sure? this is really weird as it seems like its not the bloatware...i dont have any bloatware that starts up...except for the stuff that i listed..
