Hello,
Last saturday I was stupid enough to take my time and install windows vista. Most of the stuff was recognized and working, although with generic windows drivers. Also, stuff that did not work, I was unable to install. I have a DV8000t laptop.
I had this deja-vu while doing the reinstalling. Although my past experience was positive. There was this same driver craziness when I switched from w2k to wxp, although that time, 99% of stuff was compatible. All I would get is a message that "there drivers are not certified." No more though...

Vista was released to RTM 2 weeks ago
It has been available to download on MSDN since last Friday
so yes its out and they should support it -
The MSDN version is the enterprise release for businesses (yes other versions are available to limited groups) and the dv8000t is a consumer notebook. Vista is RTM, it is not released to consumers yet -- mainly because it takes time to write device drivers. How are device manufacturers supposed to write brand-new drivers (32-bit and 64-bit) for all their devices within a few days of a new operating system reaching RTM? Yes, they should have been working on drivers before RTM stage, but drivers have to be tested on the final version, revised as necessary, and submitted to MS for certification. If things aren't ready for January 30, then be pissed.
Also, if you install 32-bit Vista, almost ALL drivers necessary are either included or can be installed from your SwSetup directory without having to wait for updated drivers. If you installed 64-bit Vista (as I have) there are a few problems (no card reader drivers, sound codec issues) but Vista most definitely works.
Edit: I didn't mean to come off so harsh on this post, but I was in a bad mood from posting posts similar to this on a number of different boards. Anyway, if HP really does drop the ball and doesn't have Vista drivers/software updates ready to go for the consumer launch I'll be there with you all screaming at them. In the meantime, if you really want to use Vista now, I made a how-to thread on this forum that describes the process and problems/solutions for HP notebooks.
Hope this post is more useful now. -
Don't expect HP releases anything to public until they release laptop with Vista preinstalled on it. Until then, any complains are just silly. Just becuase Windows Vista has reached RTM does not mean that all drivers are written for Vista already.
I can't blame you though. A lot of people have that expectation, and I can't figure out why. But if you are really really wondering, I know that HP is somewhat working closely with Microsoft on driver support, based on the internal activities within Microsoft. -
Once vista is released there will be support. In Beta everyone is just trying to find problems and reporting them -

jadedraverla: the MSDN version lets you install any of the Vista versions, though nearly everyone selects Vista Ultimate. Given the very, VERY long Vista development period a company with HP's resources really ought to have at least beta drivers out. nVidia, for one, has been really good about this. Beta HP printer and scanner software would be nice to have.
WinXP drivers will often work on 32-bit Vista, if you manually select the driver installation directory. Microsoft might have removed that capability in Vista final but it worked in the betas (I haven't installed final yet). I nearly got my HDTV tuner to work that way. For 64-bit Vista you will, of course, need 64-bit drivers.
But yeah, don't expect any official HP Vista support until they start preloading it on their PCs and notebooks. -
brianstretch, they do have beta drivers out, just not to the public.
Some drivers from Xp will work in Vista Final somewhat. The audio driver from Xp will work under Vista, and it does solve the "lost sound" after hibernation or suspend mode. However, since it was not written for Vista, the microphone support is very lousy. Comparing with Skype on Xp, people on Skype could not hear much from me on Vista. They would hear my voice from behind a wall or something.

Vista support - where is it?
