I bought a transfer cable off ebay (prolific PL2501)that said windows comliant. I plugged it in and the hardware wizard says wont work with Vista you must buy pl25A1. What I dont understand is why does this cable work on my laptop when I boot it into media center2005 but not when I boot it into vista?I mean I am using the same port!

Because a cable is not enough to transfer data across two different computers. You also need software, which apparently doesn't want to work on the Vista machine.

You can transfer files directly over your network.
