I am planning to get a new laptop, and if I buy it now I can get a upgrade DVD to install Win Vista latter. Does anyone know if its only a upgrade dvd or one can do a clean install of vista using it.

Even if its an upgrade DVD, you can still do a clean install using your WinXP product key located on the bottom of your notebook.

gautam3 should be correct on this. All of the retail discs (full or upgrade) can be used to perform a clean install. There's a slight possibility that the Express Upgrade discs that users will receive for free will not allow you to do this, but if that's the case then I'm sure someone will post a workaround to any "clean install" lockout they implement.

I hope so. Everything I read suggest that the express upgrade disk will alow you to do a clean install
