    Vista upgrade compatible with other notebook?

    i ordered the hp redemption for my nc8430 two weeks ago but now i've sold my laptop. i'm wondering if i can use the upgrade disc on the different machine? if not then i'm going to have hp forward it to the guy who bought my laptop. thanks.

    I think the upgrade should work as long as you have Windows XP already installed. On the legal side, I thought the the Vista upgrade license replaces the previous Windows XP license so you could not legally use both OSes. I am not sure if this actually enforce this by invalidating the old XP keys, but it could be trouble for the guy you sold the laptop to, like he might not be able to use Windows Update since it would be with an invalid windows key.

    If I remember correctly you have to input your Windows XP serial key, when order the upgrade CD so they do have a record of it.
