Hi I’m Anna from HP Total Care,

I wanted to share some information on web cams that may be useful.

IF you have bought Vista at a retailer to upgrade from XP, you will need to upgrade the webcam’s firmware. If you have 32 bit system, you can either do a search for SoftPaq 34746 from HP.com or click on this link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3193378&os=2093&lang=en If you have a 64 bit PC, we are currently working on the update. We’ll post a reply here when it becomes available.

IF you bought a PC with Vista pre-installed or have done an express upgrade (meaning you got it shipped to you at no additional charge and used the upgrade kit) the webcam should work. You get to it by hitting the Quickplay button on your notebook’s keyboard. Personally, I have used Windows Live Messenger with Quickplay and didn’t have any problems. Here’s the link that discusses Quickplay http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...s&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3340160&dlc=en&lang=en

I hope you find this helpful.

    Hi Anna,

We are looking for a good and simple software to take photos and to record same video.
    Can you help us out?

    Thank you.

    Anna,

Hi, I've got Vista Ultimate on my DV2166eu with the new web cam driver installed. The web cam works OK with Quickplay and Muvee Autoproducer but not with Windows Live Messanger. Also if I upgrade the BIOS level from F13 to the latest level F22 (F22 contains Vista enhancements) the web cam drops off the Imaging Devices and appears as an Unknown USB device under USB Controllers and then does not work at all. Reverting the BIOS back to F13 the web cam then works OK with Quickplay and Muvee Autoproducer.

    Any thoughts on this ?

Have you tried reinstalling the webcam driver after updating your BIOS? If that driver doesn't work with the new BIOS, manually update the driver using one of the three Vista webcam drivers in the stickied HP Vista driver thread. One of them came off a new dv2000t (2200 series) and works fine with my machine.

    Swissair,
Quickplay is a very simple application to record video and take snapshots with your webcam

Hey, Anna, not to beat a dead horse, but has anything been mentioned about proper Vista audio drivers for dv2000t owners (all those before the 2200 series) that use the Conexant "Waikiki" audio codec, instead of the "Venice" audio codec that is used now?

As was mentioned before, the drivers on the website don't work (they're only compatible with the "venice" codec) despite being listed as compatible with these models, and yet the response from HP is always either use the (wrong and incompatible) drivers on the website, or use the (very problematic) XP drivers.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't know if you already tired to record videos with it ( QuickPlay )
    It does not work correctly.

I have tired it with all the laptops in my company and got same issue.
HP Chat support told me that they are working to fix that issue.

    Thanks

Is there any plan to fix the issues with the Quickplay buttons after upgrading from XP to Vista Home Premium? I have a dv9060us. It also seems that the support being provided by HP is lacking. It should be a simple six since the new model has Vista loaded and the hardware is the same with a different model #. HP HELP!

    Anna,

I just purchased a HP dv9220us laptop with windows Vista installed. I have had nothing but problems with the webcam. My laptop is only 2 weeks old. I have used Windows messenger live, Yahoo Messenger, paltalk and even Quickplay. All four of these applications work sometimes with the webcam. What happens, is after I close them down, randomly when I go to start the webcam again, I get an error saying that there is no webcam attached to the USB port. Once I get this error, none of the programs will work with the webcam again, until I reboot the laptop. Sometimes that doesn't even help, and I have to reinstall the drivers for the webcam. I have tried using the latest drivers from HP and, I have tried uninstalling those drivers and using the drivers from the recovery disk. Nothing helps. This problem occured as soon as I got the laptop. I also have an external Creative webcam, that I have plugged into the usb port that works 100% of the time with this laptop.

I don't know if the webcam is defective in my machine, or it is just a driver problem. I seem to think it is a driver problem, because I can always get the webcam to function again by reinstalling the drivers.

This bug is driving me crazy. Just when I want to use the webcam, I find out that its not working again , and I have to reboot the machine to make it function again. The webcam almost never malfunctions while it is being used. The error seems to be after it is closed down and restarted again. I don't think I am the only one with this problem. I have had responses from other people with the same problem.

AFAIK, it's just not possible under Vista... with the current drivers and software. That "link" just needs to be removed if it still shows up.

I bought a new HP laptop and am having exactly the same problems. I have a partial solution, to relieve some of the frustration. Go to the HP website and get sp34746. (put in dv2000z for the product and find the built in webcam patches). Anyway, the good news is if you run the driver patch your cam will work without rebooting. The bad news is you have to run it almost everytime after you turn the cam off. It takes 20-30 secs to run. Hope this helps!
