Is there some way around this? I ended one of the process one time, I VolCtrl.exe * 32, and it made the onscreen display go away, but then I could no longer adjust the brightness (probably because the onscreen display is identical for both except for a light icon insteam of a volume icon)

Any help would be great. With that process not running volume control still worked fine, but screen brightness changing went away, a price I can't afford to pay for that.

Sure - open HP Quick Launch -> Preferences and uncheck the "Display HP Quick launch button notifications". This willremove the notifications and solve your problem.

Horup: Registered just to post thanks. I've been looking for the solution to this for quite a long time, and I didn't realize the answer was so simple.
