For one reason or another, which I have no idea, on my dv9774 recently the on screen volume display does not change with the volume level. I can change volume with the touch pad thing and I get the audible clicks as it goes down or up, yet the on screen display shows maximum volume when it pops up. It always would go up and down with the volume before.
What may have happened? and what do I need to reinstall or update to fix it? Please and thank you :)
Its a slight annoyance that just bugs me. I probably wouldn't mind if the OSD actually didn't even come on, the fact that it does and doesn't move is annoying.

AMD? I had the same problem with mine, got tired of it, took it back to Costco
while I could, and got an Intel version. :) There is an update that does exactly what you mention near the end of your post.
