Ok, so I've been doing the things in the Vista tweaks thread to speed up my dv9500z. So far so good, however, somewhere along the way I've lost the Volume and Power system icons. Clock and network are still there, however the Volume and the Power items are greyed and cannot be selected on the notification tab under Taskbar and Start menu properties.

What did I do to cause this? I'd like to have both of these icons back in the system tray if possible. Adjusting the volume with the touch keys is too slow.
    Thanks.

Right click on your taskbar and select properties--go over to the NOTIFICATION AREA tab--there you will find checkmarks for those items

The problem is those are grayed-out. I had this problem, and it's a result of a crash during shutdown. The fix is this:
    1. Open regedit as administrator
    2. Find the key "Iconstreams"
    3. Delete all keys called "iconstreams" and "pasticonstreams"
    4. Reboot
    5. Now they are no longer grayed out in the properties box, so you can enable them.
