Every time I change the volume on my notebook via keyboard shortcuts, a volume... "window" pops up and indicates how much i decrease or increase it. Problem is, that while I'm gaming or watching a movie, that indicator is always on top of any application i have opened, so it makes some games stutter, and if i accidentally click it, my game minimizes on the bar. I hope you guys understand what I'm talking about. Is there anyway to disable this feature on vista?
-
It's probably a HP application, so check there first.
-
Yeah i guess so, should i wait for a moderator to move it or make another thread there?

You can press the red exclamation mark sign undeneath your avatar and flag the post.
Did you have a look at the applications? Shouldn't be that hard to find. -
I did try to look into control panel but couldn't find anything. I also googled the problem and i found some topics about it, but nothing precise in how to disable it, also seems to be a vista feature not necessarily HP related.

Please post a screenshot.
As far as I know, Windows Vista doesn't have a volume OSD. -
Nah that's definitely an HP app that pops-up on the screen. Dell and Tosh systems use a similar app for sound and brightness levels. You can disable it by installing http://www.ccleaner.com and looking under Tools ->> Startup. You should find the hotkey app that is associated with that program. You can also disable it under MSCONFIG.
It's much easier in CCleaner as you'll only see program based tasks and not system based processes loading at startup. -
uhm i tryed to search it in tools section but couldn't find it
i disabled each process 1 by 1 to see what happens and i couldn't solve anything -
First close all open programs, make sure the volume changing is still popping up and then open task manager, go to processes and take a screenshot to show everything that's still there.

A screenshot of Task Manager, processes tab listing all processes.

Try kill HPKBDAPP.exe (click it and then 'end process')
and if doing that gets rid of the volume meter, then look into HP Quicktouch options. -
Did you reboot after disabling them???
-
yes namaiki, that helped
thanks a lot ! I'll try looking into quickplay options, or i will completely disable that process through msconfig
@rodknee, no i haven't thought of that, i thought it disables it immediately after i choose to
it's fixed now anyway, thanks a lot guys -
^It will come back if you don't disable it, next time you start your PC.
-
yes i am now trying to find the option in quickplay
-
Once you make your changes in CCleaner you need to reboot for it to take effect !
-
Do you have the same notebook? I see your CPU and GPU are same as mine. Or if you happen to be experienced in quickplay, could you tell me where can i turn off that feature ?
-
The volume control OSD is an HP app. Use 3RVX instead- it's a light, free app that won't conflict with full-screen video or games:
3RVX On-Screen Volume Control
As for disabling HP's volume OSD, not sure if the DV5 is set up differently, but on my Envy 15, I disabled the following startup item to get rid of it (Start -> type "msconfig.exe" -> go to Startup tab, uncheck):

Sorry, my laptop is a BenQ Joybook S42.

I assume your machine has those stupid quicklanch buttons in front of the keyboard. Uninstall the HP quicklaunch button software and report back.
If that fixes it, it's a call to HP, an RMA and a trip to the bench...
Volume changing, please read
