I own a C712US/NR Presario notebook and even though I've had it for a few months now, I still can't get used to how darn quiet the audio output is. With every volume bar maxed out in vista, its still a good 50%-60% Quieter then my iPod Touch and 70%-80% quieter then my old HP ZE2000 notebook using the same earbuds. For years I've always listened to music from my computer as I do stuff, but its simply not enjoyable with this notebook. My audio device is a " Conexant HD-Audio SmartAMC HD2" and I've attempted Updating/Downgrading drivers, Uninstalling/Reinstalling the device, Disabling/Enabling the device and still no improvement. Are all C700's really this quiet?

Mine is decent but not as loud as my previous laptop. I had a F572US (with the wireless issue) and that really cranked out the volume. To the point where it distorted a bit because it was so loud.
The C700 series does seem to be more quiet and I don't know why. I think it has the same sound card and Altec speakers as the F572, so it's something to do with drivers or a different board and voltages....that's my best guess. -
Any chance it could be some Volume cap in vista? I've tried hooking up a Creative External Sound Blaster and I swear its not 1% louder.

Just a guess, have you tried enabling some of the audio enhancements under Speaker properties menu. If they are disabled or not checked, try it out and see if it helps out any.

.. I've been trying drivers for other Conexant audio devices, but none of them seem to work. I highly doubt its lack of voltage since I'm only trying to power small earbuds. HP replaced my motherboard(for another reason) so I know its not a hardware flaw.

My notebook was replaced with another notebook of the same model because of Major Overheating. Both of them have the same Conexant Audio Card. Instead of installing a fresh version of Vista I simply switched the HDD's which caused many driver issues(Wireless, Audio and CPU). But to my surprise the audio coming out of the speakers was a good 70% louder then previously and my earbuds were about 50%-60% louder. I went on to install Vista using the recovery discs I made on the new notebook before switching the HDD's. After the install the volume dropped down to what I was used to on the old notebook... This leads me to believe there is some type of Volume Cap implemented into the driver or Vista and that these computers have the hardware capability to be much louder.
Volume output on Presario C700 - Really Quiet
