Given the website's top story, I thought I'd ask a long-standing question. Is Voodoo hype or quality? I configured a notebook (A:538) to match the specs of the Acer Ferrari 4005. The result is slightly over $1000 CAD. There were two improvements, one more significant than the other. The first is obviously the "Allure" paint, but the Acer is no slouch in the appearence department either. The second is the 15.4" WUXGA 1900x1200, which does hold a lot of sway with me. Anyway, since I was in the process of buying a new notebook, I thought I'd take another look at Voodoo. What're your thoughts?

Personally, I'd go for the Voodoo if it was between the two, because the extra cash will be well worth it - that is if I had the cash.

And since both are very eye catching, why not just push that to the max :D

Very expensive, but probably worth the end result. Customer service is a definite plus for the Voodoo, as it will be more personalized. And the paint job on the Voodoos....that's got to be the most eye-catching feature! You'd get more attention from having a Voodoo than a Ferrari.

If you have the cash, then it sounds good!

Hmm. After further examining the Voodoo a:538, I don't find it very attractive. The paint job is nice, but it's not a significant improvement on case design. In the end, I still see hints of a Clevo machine wrapped in a new coat. I much prefer how the Ferrari looks overall . There's a Voodoo u:522 with 15.4" WUXGA and X700 256 MB, but it's also heavier at 7.5 lb. I've concluded that I need to compromise on the hardware specification for the mobility.

Plus, I'm willing to bet that those high performance parts don't do wonders for the battery life. The Ferrari is rated for 3.5 hours. I wonder what the Voodoo a:538 and u:522 are capable of. Thoughts?
